Review: Star Trek
In the process of making everything old new again and opening the door for more exploration of characters many of us saw very little reason to take another look at, Abrams ably accomplishes what was surely the mission of the new Star Trek -- which is less a prequel than a re-set: a re-imagining of an alternate path for the original characters that would allow for continued exploration of Kirk and crew without retreading the same paths.

Granted, I wasn't an original trekkie and haven't seen the new film (though probably will now if only to be a part of the conversation). From what I hear the new one is pretty spectacular and manages to sneak in some philosophy in between galactic battles.
But I still can't help seeing this as simply part of a larger industry trend toward making movies about young, pretty people. Until 10 years ago movies used to be about adults, and now it seems as though you rarely see any leading characters older than 40.
