Seriously?

Hollywood Elsewhere's Jeff Wells has written a lot of stupid shit on his blog over the years, but this recent post detailing how he breaks the attractiveness and relative worth of women (and how much trouble they are in relationships) down by letter grades is over the top, even for him. Here's my favorite bit:

"Life would be heavenly and rhapsodic if women had the personality and temperament of dogs -- forever loyal, non-judgmental, constantly affectionate. But that's a loser's dream."

Oh, and then there's this one, which he left in the comments:

"Women are here to weed out the non-hackers and advance the species and fortify the nests. Men, on the other hand, are dogs."

Hahahahahahahahahahaha! Oh, sweet Moses. Those quotes -- really, the post in its entirety -- explain so much.

Okay, Melissa Silverstein and Anne Thompson. You were right. I hearby take back what I said on that panel last November about there being a certain value in smart women reading and commenting on sites like Hollywood Elsewhere, where misogynistic bullshit like this is a regular occurrence. I used to think it was necessary to inject a more balanced view there, but I'm no longer convinced it's worth that effort.
