Dancing with Badgers: Sundance Theatres open, finally, someday, in Madison, WI
"The inaugural Sundance Cinema Center, a six-screen movie theater dedicated to independent and foreign films," reports Piet Levy of the Madison Journal-Sentinel, "is set to open at Madison's Hilldale Mall by the end of 2006. The announcement was made Friday by Sundance Cinemas LLC and [a] real estate company that purchased the mall last year.... The Sundance Cinema Center would join Marcus Theatres' Westgate Art Cinemas, Landmark Theatres' Market Square Cinema and the Orpheum Theatre in providing the state capital with alternative movies, while... giving the older theaters some stiff competition.... "It will definitely hurt us, because we can't play the same films as Hilldale because of its proximity to us," said Merijoy Endrizzi-Ray, manager and film programmer at the Orpheum. "And I'm sure someplace like Sundance will have greater pull than the Orpheum."
