Wild and arty guy: Levy goes long with Steve Martin
In an extended yet dry [as in champagne-dry] Steve Martin interview, Shawn Levy of the Oregonian gets Martin going on art as shown in other movies. "I've also known artists who work in exactly [the] way [Claire Danes' character does]. The artistic processes in the film and book were based on the work of a young woman [Allyson Hollingsworth] whose drawings we used and who adapted her photographic style for us. Those are real things...

"I find that art in movies is generally terrible and always misguided. And I think it's so important to get it right. There's a movie called 'The Object of Beauty' --... where they used that little Henry Moore sculpture. And I watched a movie last night called Junebug where they used a primitive, outsider artist. And the work looked pretty good... I hope that in our movie that the art is genuine and real and believable and not just somebody slashing on a canvas... The art has to look good too on the screen. And I think this work does." FOR AN EXTENSIVE GALLERY of the 36-year-old Hollingsworth's work, in the vein of Mirabelle's night photography, here's a link to her page at one of the galleries that represents her work.
