Sundance Preview Day Six: Inauguration Day! Plus The Winning Season and Peter & Vandy (views)

Inauguration Day! When's the last time we had an inauguration during the fest that people actually care about?

Along with most everyone else here in Park City, I'll be taking a break from all things Sundance for a few hours this morning to attend an Inauguration party (pity the poor films slotted to screen against Obama's big day). But after that, it's straight back to work, promise.

Following the inauguration, I'm planning to catch The Winning Season, James C. Strouse's film about an alcoholic ex-basketball star (Sam Rockwell) who ends up coaching a high school girl's basketball team; co-stars Emma Roberts (who was excellent in Lymelife, which screened earlier in the fest), Shareeka Epps (Half Nelson) and Emily Rios (Quinceanara). Loved Strouse's Grace is Gone, love Rockwell in anything, and really like all three of these young actresses, so I'm really looking forward to this one.

After that I'm going to catch Peter & Vandy, which stars Jason Ritter (Good Dick) and Jess Weixler (Teeth) in a non-linear tale about the rise and fall of a relationships. It's directed by Jay Dipietro, who also wrote the screenplay off his own play. Looks to be an interesting story, but it remains to be seen whether the non-linear structure works.
