What about Richard Gere? He's never gotten a nomination, probably because every time he's been passed over when he gets close (Internal Affairs, Days of Heaven, Officer & a Gentleman), he torpedoes his next chance by making about 10 or 11 terrible movies in a row. He was unfortunately snubbed for his brilliant work in Chicago, which means his next 10 films are guaranteed to stink.
