Good Reason For A Remake

From The Dukes of Hazzard, second set of Duke boys, 1983, as seen on CMT this afternoon:

"Sure don't want no Dukes cheatin' me out no Nobel Peace Prize!!!"

Comments

I love redneck humor. Jeff Foxworthy and that Blue Collar Comedy. The tops.

Posted by: Panda Bear at July 22, 2005 02:45 AM

One thing the movie has going for it is a pretty solid cast.

Burt Reynolds. A legend.

Posted by: Bruce at July 22, 2005 03:34 AM

A good cast? Jackass, Stifler, and Jessica Simpson? Yikes.

Posted by: Stella's Boy [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 22, 2005 03:36 AM

Road Trip will go down as a classic in a few years. The 00's answer to Animal House, Stripes, Caddyshack. Don't dis Sean Scott. The guy can do comedy with the best of them.

Posted by: Panda Bear at July 22, 2005 04:22 AM

Watching Jackass is painful. To the funny bone. Thinking how can these guys possibly do these things. It's crazy but hilarious.

Posted by: LesterFreed [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 22, 2005 05:12 AM

Give me a film like Road Trip over any boring good movie any day of the week. Comedy. Can't please everyone.

Posted by: Mark at July 22, 2005 06:48 AM

But I digress. Back on topic, I'm actually disappointed that they cast Burt Reynolds when they obviously needed a short fat guy in the part. I do like the rest of the cast, though, and Super Troopers is a decent movie, so this will probably be worthwhile.

Posted by: jeffmcm at July 22, 2005 07:49 AM

Seann William Scott is actually a decent guy, he just needs some better stuff. He ain't too hard to look at either.

Posted by: KamikazeCamel at July 22, 2005 09:02 AM

I just don't know if I'll see the Dukes of Hazzard yet. I haven't been blown away by the tv spots yet and the trailer was so so. But that time period in Aug is usually a dead time and this might just be better than it looks. I like Scott even if I am not a huge fan of most of his movies. But how many young performers have a resume that is really good?

Posted by: Bruce at July 22, 2005 02:42 PM

don't u know? only people with low iq's can see comedies nowadays. its a rule.

Posted by: bicycle bob [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 22, 2005 02:48 PM

I just spit up my morning coffee after reading that. LOL.
That is funny. Thanks for the laugh Jeffrey but my desk hates you right now. Hot coffee. Hot.

Hot. Just like Sean W Scott. I'll see any movie he makes.

Posted by: BluStealer [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 22, 2005 03:01 PM

I think "Dukes" will be a good time.

Nothing more and nothing less. Thanks to the cast and the "Broken Lizard" guys it will be funny. That's it.

What else would we want?

Posted by: Movies For Pleasure at July 22, 2005 03:02 PM

I loved Super Troopers. Didn't like Club Dread that much. But I do need to see it again and again. Like any good comedy it needs room to grow.

Posted by: BluStealer [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 22, 2005 03:07 PM

They are selling this movie the right way. Selling fun. Selling Jackass. And selling sex. Jessica Simpson can sell it.

Posted by: Terence D [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 22, 2005 03:13 PM

Sean William Scott is one of the best young comedic actors we got today.

They're easy to spot because we don't have many under 30.

I think this movie is going to be great. If anyone is expecting a Citizen Kane type experience, who let you out of the rubber room?

Posted by: Josh at July 22, 2005 03:35 PM

don't u see that liking jackass makes u have an iq of under triple digits. why doesn't mtv say that before they run all those episodes? why mtv why?

Posted by: bicycle bob [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 22, 2005 03:43 PM

comedy is one of those things that varies so much from person to person.

I didn't particularly like Road Trip but I loved Joes Apartment(despite annoying Jerry) which I know is crap but I still loved it. I also love Night at the Roxbury which is more crap, Will Ferrell was great in it.

Speaking of comedy, Dave implied Bad News Bears was a waste of time.

Was it really that bad D Po?

Posted by: Lota [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 22, 2005 04:51 PM

I don't care who's in the film I'm seeing for the same reason I watched the show the car.

Posted by: teambanzai [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 22, 2005 05:29 PM

The Bad News Bears is a waste of time. Just go out and rent the 1976 version.

Much better.

Posted by: Josh at July 22, 2005 06:10 PM

Nothing makes my day like listening to guys complain about how a post makes them feel bad. It makes me miss those days when I was 12 years old. Maybe thats why the remake talk is also happening. Coincidence? I think not.

Posted by: BluStealer [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 22, 2005 06:36 PM

I think the DUKES OF HAZZARD movie looks like it'll be fun. Probably not "good," but fun. I can't wait to see it. However, I don't get why they're pushing Stiffler wearing a Led Zep shirt in all the ads. I wonder how much they had to pay for that product placement?? It just doesn't fit the Duke boys. Skynard, yes. Led Zeppelin....not so much.

I just watched that I WALK THE LINE trailer and it looks so-so. Phoenix looks like he's trying to hard and I just can't get into Witherspoon. I loved FREEWAY and ELECTION, but after that, she just looks like Reese Witherspoon in everything.

However...why does the trailer continue to fuel the myth that Johnny Cash was in prison?? Granted, the trailer never "shows" him in prison, but it implies that he was by the opening and in a shot of him sitting in a cell. JC was never in prison. He played at Folsom, but he was never an inmate. Seems kinda hokey to play into a fallacy just to add to his "bad boy" image.

EDITOR'S NOTE: I just went through this comments list and pulled all the personal attacks. Some of them were nothing but attack. Some were a passing sentence of attack followed by a worthwhile post. But every little shot contributes to the next little shot.

So, as an experiment, I thought I would try this. It all started with Joefitz writing, Stella's an elitist." From there, Stella, Jmc, Chester, Bob, Terrence, Blu-Stealer, and Bruce all got into it.

For the record, I really don't know who my as kissing clique is, but I don't need their shit or your shit floating in the hot blog bowl. The occasional jab is fine and should be met with appropriate zeal and humor. But this is just plain stupid already.

Posted by: David Poland [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 22, 2005 07:23 PM

You're right, it is stupid. I am so sick and tired of having to stick up for myself against personal attacks. It's taking away all the fun of coming here.

Posted by: Stella's Boy [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 22, 2005 07:36 PM

Run and tell the "teacher" Stella's Boy. Run along.

You're on a movie blog for christsakes. Develop some thicker skin. The original Stella is rolling over right now.

Posted by: Josh at July 22, 2005 07:40 PM

Didn't Johnny Cash spend some time behind bars? Wasn't that his whole thing for a while? The convict poet/singer?

Posted by: LesterFreed [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 22, 2005 07:44 PM

I can handle disagreeing with people. That's fine. But there is a line which is continually crossed. No one should have to deal with other people constantly insulting them and putting words in their mouth. Why is that too much to ask of people who are supposedly adults?

Posted by: Stella's Boy [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 22, 2005 07:44 PM

can u just shut up about it? no one really cares about it. jeez louise. put a cork in it.

Posted by: bicycle bob [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 22, 2005 07:50 PM

Every time Stella posts, almost without fail, someone is there to pounce and mock him/her.

Posted by: jeffmcm at July 22, 2005 08:28 PM

Yawn.

Posted by: LesterFreed [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 22, 2005 08:33 PM

Without any issue of agreeing or disagreeing with all or any attacks... just don't defend yourself... let it go... don't feed the fire and it will go away...

It took all of 20 minutes for Stella to somplain again and for Josh and Bob to slap Stella again.

CWAJGA?

Posted by: David Poland [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 22, 2005 08:37 PM

'Scuse me, Dave, but Stella has every right to complain. He is constantly harassed by the Sharks every single time he opens his mouth here. You say ignore them and they will go away. BULLSHIT! These cockroaches never go away. They are just sitting on this blog all day long waiting to pounce on their chosen prey. You're like some lazy-ass boss who sits back while an employee is being perpetually bullied, advising him/her to play along with the all-white-boys club. It's time for you to take some responsibility for what's posted on your name-bearing website. There's a right and a wrong here, and you can't just keep driving down the middle. And since you seem incapable of seeing the obvious: THESE GUYS ARE LAUGHING AT YOU, taking advantage and making a mockery of the wimpy tolerance you've shown towards them all along.

Posted by: Chester at July 22, 2005 09:40 PM

Dave, you're right. This is as boring as it gets. And a pretty good thread was ruined.

Posted by: Terence D [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 22, 2005 09:47 PM

hey dp sorry bout that but the always complaining and bitching about nothing and god knows what else just gets to me. it hurts my eyes.

Posted by: bicycle bob [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 22, 2005 09:51 PM

The only ones who consistently ruin threads are Terence D and his buddies.

Posted by: Chester at July 22, 2005 09:51 PM

Again I'll ask a real silly question.

When has Chester posted anything about a movie or the industry or anything related to a topic at hand? Never. You can't answer it because it has never happend. Ever. And most people here realize this fact and really don't want to put up with childish inflaming games. You can hate me all you want. But I won't play your childish games.

Posted by: Terence D [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 22, 2005 09:56 PM

I sense a lot of hatred in your heart, Chester. Way, way too much for a movie blog when we're discussing the merits of Jackass, JEssica Simpsons and the acting of Sean William Scott.
It is more than okay if you don't find those things worthy to chat about. But I do. And I'm sure some of us like talking about all things movies.

That is why I come here. To listen. To learn. I even saw Fantastic Four because so many people here hated it. And I realized most were right. but no matter.

I live for the discussions.

Posted by: Bruce at July 22, 2005 10:00 PM

"When has Chester posted anything about a movie or the industry or anything related to a topic at hand? Never. You can't answer it because it has never happend. Ever."

See what Stella and I mean, Dave?

Dave, you know damn well that I have ALWAYS gotten into intense discussions here about films and the industry, and have even gotten into heated disagreements with you personally about related topics. Yet these bullshit artists know they are free to gather here to impugn anyone's character and writings with the most insolently abusive and degrading lies BECAUSE THEY KNOW YOU WILL TOLERATE IT - AT LEAST SO LONG AS THEY KEEP KISSING YOUR ASS.

Posted by: Chester at July 22, 2005 10:14 PM

I think I'm going to Yawn myself.

Posted by: Mark at July 22, 2005 10:21 PM

Again proving that you only post attacks or inciteful things. Thanks for proving people right here, Chester.

Posted by: Angelus21 [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 22, 2005 10:30 PM

No, Angelus21, thank you for continuing to post lies that prove ME right.

Posted by: Chester at July 22, 2005 10:38 PM

One day you got a good discussion going on elitism vs dumb comedies. The next it turns into a baby festival of complaints from people. Way to zap the fun out of it.

Posted by: Panda Bear at July 22, 2005 10:40 PM

Ok Chest I'll play along with you. I'm willing to take a ride on the train. How do you feel about elitism vs dumb comedies? I'm all ears now for you. Instead of taking cheap shots at people and at Dave why not join in the discussion because why else do you come here?

Posted by: Panda Bear at July 22, 2005 10:42 PM

You know Stella we can spare the boards a lot of grief and wasted time figuring out our argument with each other instead of you bitching about it. We're men. We can talk about it. I wasn't trying to come down on you. I just found an elitism in your posting on the Dukes movie. Why aren't you prepared to discuss the positions you take on subjects? For the next time why not take a deep breath and discuss it. Let it all out. Because no one responds to bitching and moaning and I'm sure Dave Poland really wants to be playing wet nurse to a bunch of posters. It's not fair to him. I'm not taking shots at you personally. I'm taking huge shots at your positions. A big difference.

Posted by: joefitz84 [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 22, 2005 10:52 PM

Panda Bear, the problem is that inconsiderate people like you are only able to have fun at the expense of others.

As always, watch how much more fun and interesting the discussion boards will be over the weekend when these guys take their weekly hiatus.

As for how I feel about elitism and dumb comedies, I say, "Huh?" It's a brainless question/issue invented to insult Stella's Boy (in a portion of the blog now deleted by Dave Poland). I think you guys looking down your noses at Stella's Boy are just as elitist as anyone perceived to be up in some ivory tower. As far as I'm concerned, whatever makes you laugh has merit ... so long as no reasonable person gets hurt. (And I'm not talking about slapstick pain.)

Posted by: Chester at July 22, 2005 10:55 PM

No one invented anything. If you read the thread before being a jerk and commenting on things you would see that. But why am I wasting my time with you? You obviously only want to take shots at people here. That is the reason you are here aren't you, Chester? I've wasted enough of my time on you. Bye.

Posted by: joefitz84 [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 22, 2005 10:57 PM

Bye-bye right back at you, joefitz84. Don't hurry back.

Posted by: Chester at July 22, 2005 11:04 PM

This calls for a double Yawn. Why do you people bother with guys like Chester? All they want is a rise out of you. They won't have a reasonable back and forth. All they want to do is start trouble.

Posted by: Mark at July 22, 2005 11:06 PM

If it wasn't so sad I'd be laughing. I don't mind tkaing shots from anonymous jerks online. That's life. But at least state an opinion and don't try and take me on like you know whats what. That I can't respect.

Posted by: Bruce at July 22, 2005 11:09 PM

I'll laugh for you Bruce because it's funny to me. How angry and sad some of these people are. Life isn't that bad. It is really not.

Posted by: Angelus21 [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 22, 2005 11:14 PM

joefitz, it would have been nice if you had attempted to start a discussion. If you had said, "Hey Stella's Boy. Do you not like dumb comedies? What kind of movies do you find funny?" That would have been great. But you did not do that. You immediately branded me an elitist and assumed you knew exactly what kind of taste I have, even though you have no clue. See the difference? You did not attempt to begin a discussion. You just insulted me and presumed to know what kind of movies I like. And that is why I got defensive. I do not like it when people insult me and act like they know exactly what I like and don't like. All you had to do was ask. But you didn't. I am fully prepared to discuss my position on things. All a person has to do is ask me, rather than jump down my throat and call me names.

Posted by: Stella's Boy [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 22, 2005 11:55 PM

Stella's Cry Baby. Change that name. I am sick and tired of listening to this babying crap. You're feelings hurt? Tough luck. Don't start trouble if you can't handle it. If I wanted this diaper stuff I'd hangout with my kids. At least I could spank them when they act like cry babies.

Posted by: LesterFreed [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 23, 2005 12:13 AM

If I had kids like this I'd give them back. I just isn't worth it. It can't be.

Posted by: Bruce at July 23, 2005 12:20 AM

What is the advanced word on Dukes of Hazzard? The tv spots and the trailers make it seem like a fun as heck film.

Posted by: Dewey Decimal at July 23, 2005 12:34 AM

Hearing mixed messages on it. On one hand they're doing a lot of pre release publicity. Which is a good sign that it will be decent enough. The directo hasn't had a big hit yet but hes made some decent enough comedies. I'm just hoping for some fun with it. I like Knoxville and Scott so I expect that much. The eye candy of Simpson doesn't hurt the cause.

Posted by: joefitz84 [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 23, 2005 01:05 AM

See, every single time someone suggests that 'certain people' are only out there to mock, they respond by using the crybaby excuse. ADULTS DON'T CALL PEOPLE CRYBABIES. They politely disagree and move on to another topic of discussion. Half of the people on here are not interested in discussion, just in mockery and attacks in herd mentality. It's ridiculous.

Posted by: jeffmcm at July 23, 2005 05:52 AM

Danny DeVito should have played Boss Hogg.
Or is that too perfect? Everytime I see a picture of Burt Reynolds, it scares me. Multiple facelifts are bad baaad baaaad.
