Do We Need Another Hero?

Eileen Newman takes the reins at NBR.

Will it help... does it matter?

Who was executive director the year Moulin Rouge got best picture? Kermit The Frog?

Nah, it was The Marquis de Sade.

So we can agree it was somebody french.

I think actual French people would hate Moulin Rouge as being wayyyy too American (yes I know the director is Australian).

I propose America should open investigataions on people who just LOOK french.

Like Phoebe Cates and Kevin Kline.

Think about it.

They have Kong for best pic? Be nice to see fantasy keep its tenuous foothold in the academys eyes but I'm not sure the big hairy guy has the credentials to be in the top 5. Then again the 45m of hair raising ariel dogfight footage and Brodie's subsequent loss of nerve that he must overcome at end just may swing it. (Wings + Aviator = Oscar)

No chance in Middle Earth that Peter Jackson wins again.

That quicktime footage was something else, huh. Three+ hours of the big ape is looking like not enough now. Wasn't the original book a trilogy?

I'm looking forward to PJ's take on Kong. What else is to get excited about in December???

Not much out there.

What original book? Do you think King Kong was a book?

Oh snap.

Never heard of this Eileen Newman. But if Rog Friedman is writing about her she must have something to do with Miramax.

God, I hate it when people talk about films as if they were actually considered bad. I'm fairly certain Moulin Rouge! was considered pretty good when it won all the awards that it did and that it will still be extremely popular in 50 years time.

...but, ya know.

BTW, The NBR never awards the Lord of the Rings trilogy, if memory serves me correct. Maybe they did with Return of the King, but for some reason I can't help but think that they didn't.
