Preparing For The MPAA
This is a small view of the whole memo...

And here is the close-up, which you hopefully will be able to read...

LOL! That's hilarious, especially the postscript. Where did you come across that?
I only saw the movie once, but that was about a year ago on DVD. Interestingly, I don't even remember the only joke they really wanted to fight for. Did it make it in the final cut?

Sweet Christ! If you have to itemize things like that, people (the MPAA) have their heads up their cum sucking ass. But we already knew that.
Yet...
Why not just go for an "Unrated" movie?? If it's unrated, that doesn't make it 18 and older. Technically, any age could go. That would be the ultimate fuck you to the MPAA and would be the biggest marketing ploy EVER. A "Southpark" movie that's so offensive, it's unrated! I'm sure they're saving that for DVD release where they'll make the big money.

Such lofty topics of discussion.. and people wonder if we're getting coarser as a society...
I'm not in favor of any kind of government censorship, but vulgarity for it's own sake soon loses it's ability to shock, and it just escalates into further and further extremes in order to have any effect. Sort of like what happens to drug addicts.

A lot of theaters enforce 'unrated' as '18 and older' so it would basically be the same as NC-17 anyway.

This August will mark the 12th year I've been on the internet, and this is by far the BEST thing I have ever seen on it.
Thank you Mr. Poland. You are a gift to your profession.

"Unrated" Films will not usually be ok'd initially by studios, because they won't be shown by chain theatrical distributors. Meaning the South Park film only would have played in art-house theaters and not have been able to rake in the same amount of cash. But I'd love to see an unrated DVD.

Hehe. That is great. Agreed about the PS. I'd be laughing my ass off if I was writing something similar.

"Y tu mamá también" was released in the US unrated; Regal and AMC played it. "The Aristocrats" was released unrated; AMC banned it, Regal played it.

How on Earth could AMC ban a movie?

Any company that is a signatory to the MPAA can not--repeat, NOT--release an unrated movie. All the major studios are signatories--including, of course, Paramount. Y TU MAMA and ARISTOCRATS were released by independents.

MPAA is not government censorship...it's industry self-censorship, hence the business with studios being signatories.
