The aged look is a nice effect. So will we be seeing commercials for only one of the movies at a time, or will they promote them as the double-feature that they are? The running time between the two is well over 3 and 1/2 hours...

Grind House is a 2007 film that consists of two segments, of which both are feature-length attractions. One segment, Planet Terror, will be a zombie film written and directed by Robert Rodríguez. The other segment, Death Proof, will be a slasher film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. There will also be trailers advertising fake films between the segments. Grind House is expected to be released on April 6, 2007.

It seems like the Weinsteins would just release them as two separate movies and get more screenings of each per day, the same way they did with the two separate Kill Bills. I'm surprised they're sticking with the epic running time. In fact, will Tarantino be able to keep his film under two 1/2 hours?

I doubt the films are going to be longer than 90 minutes, if that much. they have to realize that the majority of the demographic they want to reach isn't going to sit through 3+ hours of this stuff.

that being said, I'm there regardless. I love the marketing on this thing. And I'm surprised DP didn't show the poster for Tarantino's part, which I believe was also displayed at Comic-Con last weekend.

I seem to remember reading that at Comic Con Tarantino said his script was 200 pages. I can't believe that'll be a 90 minute movie.

Knowing his history with Kill Bill, I wouldn't be surprised if this turns into a two film project, which Weinstein will try to sell to exhibitors as a double feature but, assuming they can't, will just book as regular separate films.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. It's going to be two movies. Both movies will be "full-length." There will be trailers and ads built-in surrounding the two films.

But the two movies won't just be an hour each. As I said before, Tarantino said at Comicon that his script alone was 200 pages (or so I read). Assuming he cuts that down and can get his movie to 90 minutes, and assuming Rodriguez's is 90 minutes as well, you're talking about three hours of feature film plus all the additional phony trailers and ads. So it'll be between 3-4 hours.

Correction: Tarantino's script is 130 pages, not 200 pages (I guess I was thinking about Kill Bill). Nevertheless, that's still over an hour and a half.

I hope it's better than "Four Rooms." Of course, it couldn't really be worse.

The Rodriguez and Tarantino sequences in Four Rooms were the best of the four, so there is hope.

Planet Terror's script is 110 pages. Death Proof's script is 130 pages. Together that makes a 4 hour movie. I have a feeling the movie will be shorter. Considering how much detail are in thoses scripts (especially QT's), I think the movie will clock in between 3 to 3 1/2 hours. I see the movie getting three showings a day. They'll probably have midnight showings on the weekend in certain markets. Both filmmakers know that the key to exploitation movies is keeping the action fast and short. Exploitation movies rarely went over 100 minutes. Remember, they want to re-create a type of moviegoing experience that doesn't exist anymore. If the movies are good then the running time won't matter.

Who wants to bet that the Grindhouse trailer will appear on Hostel 2? That's what I would do.

The thing with Tarantino's half is, I'm sure he'll keep it to a good length but it's that he hasn't even started filming yet! He has until March at the very latest to film an entire movie! Is that possible!

I am definitely anticipating this movie. Kurt Russell as a serial killer! Rose McGowen with a machine gun for a leg! It's gonna be great. The thing is, the fake trailers inbetween them are gonna be as entertaining as the movie (I assume) and so they can't really act as an intermission, and for a night on four hour movie that could be hard to get through.

I would rather see two good hour-long movies from these guys than a bloated 4-hour monster that I would have a hard time scheduling to see on my 10-8 weekday work schedule.

I liked Rodriguez's segment of Four Rooms (it was what ultimately gave him the idea for Spy Kids) but I really hated Tarantino's, mainly since he played the main role. That guy is an even more annoying person in his own films than M. Night.

Kill Bill would have been a *great* two hour movie... instead it's just two slightly better than mediocre movies. (I liked VOl. 2 much better than Vol. 1, and I think I'm in the minority there)

Vol 1 is a masterpiece in my eyes, Vol 2 is really great. I can't imagine what they will be like together because that's a completely different beast.

But, considering that the film it was modeled after, Lady Snowblood, was 2 volumes, it makes sense.

Planet Terror is clocking in at 107 minutes, and Death Proof is currently at 110 minutes long as of ComicCon. The first bit of news last year was about the trailers, so expect to have a good five to ten minutes of those as well.

Certainly. Eastwood began shooting MILLION DOLLAR BABY in August and it was released four months later. Whether it's possible for Tarantino is another question altogether.
