It's hard out there for a pimp...

I'm glad that you finally have a better shave this time, you slob. Still not gonna watch the video because your Renee-Zellweger-like voice is ruining the bearish image that I have of you in my mind.

Let me guess? This is instead of your therapy, right? Instead of finding a reputable doctor to help you with your inability to love or be loved you drag Tamara, Dave, Anne Marie and everyone else to the restaurant once a week (he actually doesn't eat lunch there gang- he does these things AFTER the lunch rush, at about 3:30) so you can bitch and moan and vent your insecurities and try to feel better.
Hollywood, the business is the same as always- having to re-invent and SHOW. Most people are the same- happy or happy-ish. You would love it to be different, so you project onto other people. Fact is, you are MAUDLIN- you're a hater David. Whether it be me or lameass Wells or Eastwood today- you hate. Who cares if Chainsaw is shit and made money? All it means is a lot of people were willing to pay to see it.
You act most like you wish there would be change. But we are all people here in the biz. We like some things and hate others.
Graham King is a prick. He is a used car salesman who sold crappy films who managed to hook up with Catherine Zeta Jones' brother and con foreign sales peeps into losing money on GANGS.
EVERYBODY listen as Dave talks about how a remake of a PERFECTLY fine Hong Kong film is one that will last forever. He gets so homoerotic (maybe now we understand last week's homophobia) for King he was probably sporting wood.
Dave- your insides are showing. Hollywood is dissing you and Wells and the rest because YOU TAKE YOURSELF SO SERIOUSLY. Hollywood only takes money seriously, bro.

Spam! You have a comment! Were you saving that up all week? What a surprise.
Sorry to hear you were somehow damaged by Graham King. I am guessing that happens a lot.
Glad you decided to do some more research to feed your obsession with these segments (Who is Anne Marie, btw?), but you're kinda crossing into creepy territory. I must have really hurt your feelings last week by exposing you as a liar, you sensitive guy you.
I asked David & Tamara about whether they know you or anyone who might be you (they didn't) and I think your slithering around for her name scared Tamara a bit. Not cool.
Let me know what day you want to scrounge around in my trash and I'll put something in there with my scent on it for you. No underwear, but I'll sweat on some old T-shirt or something for you.

At some point DP you're going to have to choose between your love of cinema and your obsession with the industry -- a strict dedication to either the art of film or the things that devalue it. These are two very different systems and trying to cover both is clearly damaging you. The tone of your journalism can best be described as frustrated. And given the contradictions of the job you've given yourself how could it not be!?!
Until you make this distinction, between Ebert or Archerd, you'll be like a physicist trying to explain the existence of god or, even worse, a catechism teacher trying to dispel Darwinism. I think deep down you know which one makes you happy -- and it ain't both.
I say this as somone who misses the original self-depricating, lighthearted spirit of The Hot Button. Best of luck, boy-o.

I will be here until you tell me why you do these vblogs.
I am not a slitherer. I walk proudly.
You know who Anne Marie is - as the owner of Ammo you must have gotten her approval to take up space every Thurs afternoon.
Graham King is a prick. That is all that was said or needs to be said.
Crow is right- FRUSTRATED is the perfect word for lonelydave with the repressed homo issues.
I'm not stalking you- I am asking questions and demanding answers. You have these forums for discussion- let's discuss.
What is the endgame with this VBLOG?

It may be up to Spam Dooley not to heed the call up but he does want to kill. His anger is more palpable than Poland's frustration. Both are negative emotions, but at least a frustrated person wants to elicit change. An angry person just wants to be a prick.

Another refreshing dose of reality, and Camera, always shy and quiet, arrived 2nd for lunch.

Rectum
Lissen Sphincty- posts are tonally neutral
If I did a Vblog my tone would be perplexed.
I really don't get why he does this.
Lonely girl was to show filmmaking chops
I don't get this- not angry- confused.
I'm not a prick, I am just lost. And I am Spam Dooley!

I don't see what the big mystery is. I'll just take a wild stab and say the point of the vblog is to present some material in a way that would not be as well served if it were written out. Maybe that's a bad guess. Makes sense to me. Though I'm not sure how the camera has any choice but to be shy and quiet in a monologue, the reason for these to exist seems pretty self-evident.

I like the vblog bits...maybe Spam is reading too deep into the tea leaves! Maybe Dave just likes being on camera, many people do. Plus he talks so fast think of all the time he saves from not having to type.
I would like the blog to be more movies & movers behind them (or blockers in front of them) and less celebrity news; much less gossip-from-studios since you really can;t name sources; Less critiquing of other publications, esp the print ones. Everyone knows how ethics has been pushed into the abyss in reporting lately, nuff said.
so keep doing the vblog...it would be nice to do one on positive things in Development and crank it to Eleven (a la Spinal tap).

speaking of movies...have you heard anything about Blood and Chocolate at all? What up with that?

Spam, if you were really 'confused' you would be sitting under a tree somewhere pondering the meaning of life, or sending a private email to DP expressing your sincere bewilderment. But instead, you're trolling and bothering people.

Mr. Poland, you seem to come back to this theme of love/hate relationship with the film biz. I agree with Lota that I'd like to see more of the love...not so much the journalistic wallowing (even though I know this happens to all entertainment writers).

It's called a vlog, not a vblog, it's not a log on the internet on video, it's a log on video and the camera is a character, just as we are in the blog. Model Frears when it comes to using the barrel of the camera to vlog. Professionals who wallow is a good thing, don't discourage it.

Look, if I were a troll trying to bother people (do you count? I mean you're mostly an ass right?) I would be on every thread being annoying. I am merely here because I know the story behind these Vlogs and want to know why David is keeping it a secret. I want to learn.

I encourage all professionals to wallow. As long as their input amounts to more than self-aggrandizement and gobbledegook.

Spam, there is no secret. But it has been my experience that giving in to teh tantrums of children or adult s behaving like children leads not to satisfaction, but to more tantrums.
Frankly, the emphasis by some folks on so much of what I do having some alleged personal agenda on my part is a bit startling. It is an interesting phenomenon.
And I am learning how to best respond to it and, admittedly, prone to flailing at it more than handling it effectively. It's the old North Dallas Forty thing of, "If I call it a game, you call it is a business and if I call it a business, you call it a game."
Without giving you what you don't deserve, Spam, the answer is that I like trying new things. The reason The Hot Button and Movie City News and The Hot Blog exist is because I am willing to push myself and consider new possibilities.
I have never done anything successful without people telling me that I shouldn't do it. And now, I get to be told every day how I am doing it wrong... and right.
There is no "woe is me," because I am fortunate enough to have good fortune in addition to my hard work. And I hope you will continue to demand answers to questions about my ideas as expressed in the work. But my motives for doing the work? That really isn't any of your business. Sorry.
Someone who posts anonymously to a blog should certainly be able to respect that boundary, no?

Okay, I agree that Spam doesn't really merit a rich and detailed answer to his 'question', but
(A) I think it is valid to question DP's motives from time to time - he certainly does that in his own writings on others, and
(B) what does being an anonymous blog poster have to do with anything?

I think the logic goes: it's inherently hypocritical to ask for transparency when the identity of the asker is itself opaque.

I suppose the trouble with emails or whatever these are is that they can sound different when played in your head.
I don't care what your motives are. If you tell me it is just to have fund, that's fine. It's your time.
What I have asked repeatedly is what the endgame is. And maybe there isn't one. It is an interesting thing to do- it is well produced and clever, if very strident and whiny. I just see it as a money loser, whereas I see MCN, which is one of my fav places, a money maker in the long run.
So I don't care about your motives, I wonder about the endgame.
And I only wish you well, ultimately.

That's horrifying, TH.
It may be odd for an anonymous poster to ask for transparency, but DP has all of our email addresses, so we aren't anonymous to him, plus I don't see that it invalidates the question in principle.
