Gossip or News?
Facing the prospect of a public trial early next year, Koules and Shapiro recently settled their dispute, an attorney for Shapiro said last week. Terms of the settlement were confidential. But based on public records, child custody, alimony and child support were not issues in the case — money was.
Really, I understand that people LOVE gossip. But is there any purpose whatsoever for the Los Angeles Times to invade a divorcing couple's private information, made public because court filings are required as process, and to make public folly of it after they managed to come to a settlement?
Me? I find it disgusting. It's right up there with obsessing on Anna Nicole's death and Paris Hilton's imprisonment. How does any of this serve a greater good? How does this divorce story do anything but allow us to wallow in the misery of the wealthy and self-indulgent? Does not a rich idiot bleed?

Thank you when I read that story I was trying to figure out how it was news. Other than a larger amount of assets to devide up how was this any different than anyone else's break up?
I know it's been said MANY times before but this is just another example. How is it the LA Times has no idea how to cover the entertainment industry?
