Love This

I may be a week behind in seeing this, but it is an image from Spike Jonze's Where The Wild Things Are, which is finally in production after years of foot dragging. And it looks... beautiful.
Even the sophistication of offering an image this simple that gives away so little and forces people to use there imagination this early in the process... just great.

A good friend of mine works in post on this movie and he's told me that Warner Bros. and Spike Jonze's people are super PISSED that this image was leaked. MTV.com released it.
I ask him for details all the time about this movie, sometimes almost begging and my friend says nothing.
I do agree with David, what a beautiful shot.

It's an OK shot.
I wasn't aware this was live action. Should have been animation with Sendak's amazing visual flair left intact. Too bad.

It wasn't leaked.
Warner Bros. had a display at the New York Licensing Show, and this was the giant standee they had on display. All MTV did was offer the high-res version of it online. The image itself was released by Warner Bros.

Beautiful? Really? The image seems like...a plain old "on the set" snapshot. It just looks like a Sesame Street movie in progress.

As year-in-advance pics go, I guess this is pretty good. Can't wait for this movie. And it has Angus Sampson. Weird.

I guess DP was wrong-- the image DOESN'T force a person to use their imagination. :p

The image is nice for a teaser, but I am really worried about this movie. This was one of the beloved books of my childhood. It was also a really short book with very little plot. How do you make an hour and a half movie out of it without inventing a plot that was unneccesary in the book? I can't help but think that it was perfect the way it was - why change it? What's next, The Giving Tree?

I imagine they'll expand the non-fantasy sequences. But, I can easily see how this could be 100minutes.
