Somehow the words "Collective Bargaining" never appear in the piece.

I'm finally getting to see Lynch's Inland Empire tonight as part of the Melbourne International Film Festival. It's theatrical release here is late November.
How fucked up is that?!

Hey, Kamikaze, at least you get to see it. There isn't a release date set for Thailand. I'll get to see it next year, probably on DVD.

INLAND EMPIRE needs to be seen with a large group of people who have no idea what they're seeing. That's how I saw it and it was an awesome moviegoing experience.

Inland Empire is also best seen on a big screen and projected in film so that all the weird video artifacts are fully appreciated.

I haven't seen Inland Empire yet. I did just watch Factory Girl and Venus.
Venus: A beautiful relationship story between an eccentric actor and his best friend in the winter of life curtailed by one of the most vapid and shallow depictions of a Pretty Woman/prostitution like relationship I have seen in a while; with a teenage girl no less. The film lets the O'Toole character of the hook for his lechery at every turn and the great big 'lesson' he teaches the formerly abused girl is that she should take her clothes off in art class. Simplistic, cliche and shallow in the extreme.
Factory Girl: Easily the most definitive version of Andy Warhol put on film yet. Period. Utterly complex and fascinating till the end, even if Hayden Christensen is a tad out of his depth. I could have watched another hour of it. That Pierce wasn't nominated for his portrayal is yet another nail in the coffin of Oscar. I am now convinced Sienna Miller can act. The unromanticized view of the sixties art scene I have been waiting for. And we actually get to see Warhol do his art. Wonderful all around.

I liked Factory Girl too. Nowhere near as much as you, but I did like it and thought Sienna and Guy were great.
My session of Inland Empire at MIFF is sold out so it'll be interesting. I've been waiting for this for six years now since I had my first exposure to Lynch with Mulholland Drive. I've been addicted ever since. Seen all his movies multiple times, watched Twin Peaks seasons 1 and 2 multiple times. Never been able to see stuff like On the Air or his internet work. The only thing I didn't like was Dune.

Speaking of good acting and prostitution, i caught 'Klute' on cable tv last night, which i last saw probably 20 years ago, and i was so blown away by jane fonda, what a brave and complex performance. it made me a bit sad that you don't often see really meaty roles like that for women anymore, most movies seem gutless nowadays. anyway, i thought the film itself was surprisingly creepy and subtle, i really enjoyed it, highly recommended if your in the mood for a bit of an old fonda/sutherland love story with a dash of menace.

Coppola said tonight that he just viewed the finished multimillion dollar full film restoration of the Godfather and it's an incredible sight. Looking forward to the new dvd, cause the original dvds could definitely use some work, though overall are excellent. even the prints I've seen of Godfather have never been really outstanding, so I'm hoping new prints made from the restoration will circulate the major cities sometime next spring.

It's probably just me, but when I saw The Godfather a couple of months ago, I wasn't thrilled at all. It might be a generational thing. I was somewhat disappointed, to tell the truth. I'll see the second one which everyone seems to agree is superior to the first.
On a side note, have anyone noticed how so many new films this year have made it into the top 250 films in IMDb? What is with that? People these days just rate movies on a whim?

The Godfather is one of those films like Mean Streets that just gets better and better as you watch it. It has that kind of depth of story and performance.
When I was younger I never really understood that film - that is, I focused on Brando and Sonny and didn't really see the incredible transformation Michael makes...but now that is the best part of the film.
I definitely recommend rewatching The Godfather a couple times to see if it takes, even if the firset time felt like medicine.
Klute is an excellent film, nice call.
And I too dug Factory Girl mostly for the performances. Too bad Jimmy Fallon got in that one, ugh. Venus I wasn't so hot on - watching Peter O'Toole in that one was like watching old footage of Willie Mays playing past his prime, you respect the guy so much you just have to look away.

ployp - no disrespect seriously, but it IS just you, although i respect anyone's opinion. and, yes, these films do get better with repeat viewings (even part 3... shudder).

So, Inland Empire was fucked up! But I'm pretty sure I loved it.
