LWD - The Namesake

Director Mira Nair, screenwriter Sooni Taraporevala, and actors Irfan Khan and Tabu come outside to "lunch" with David, talk about their film, as well as Bollywood, Nair's upcoming project, Shantaram, and Khan's work in The Darjeeling Limited and A Mighty Heart.

Irfan Khan has been terrific in each of the three films I've seen him in this year and he should really get some attention for his work in The Namesake, which is so quietly powerful and truly haunting.

I think the correct order of the women(from the left) is Taraporevala, Tabu, & then Nair.
And I only know this because I wanted to see more pictures of the hottie in the middle, and looked up the names.

With respect, I believe Mira Nair is wrong for Shantarm. After reading the book -and seeing some of Nair's previous work - there's nothing to suggest Nair can pull off such an epic film. That is not say, however, that Nair isn't ready to make the big jump into big-budget Hollywood film making - maybe she is. But I think the previous director that was attached, Peter Weir, would have made a lot more sense - especially since he's proven that he can make very large, big-budgeted films(Truman, Master and Commander). Lastly, unless Eric Roth cut a lot out, Shantaram's budget has got to be around 150-200 million dollars. Here's hoping Nair can do justice to the novel. Good luck because it's gonna be tough one.

Not that it was a critical or financial success, but Nair HAS already made the jump to big budget Hollywood--with Vanity Fair.

I just adored THE NAMESAKE, which is a beautiful, earnest film about family that really stuck out to me in an otherwise ironic world.
