LWD - Viggo

Viggo Mortensen, who just got Golden Globe nominated for Eastern Promises, sits down to talk about his work with David Cronenberg and the work of getting into his character as a Russian mob thug with style and pathos.

Jeez, DP, you are working overtime. It's hard to keep up.
This has to be one of the best interviews you've done to date. What a very articulate and thoughtful person, though anyone who's seen him sitting down before (Charlie Rose for example) will know this already. Your questions were certainly up to the level as he didn't appear bored or going through stock answers.
Nice work.

I don't understand Poland's swiftboating reference. Did he mean waterboarding? Viggo graciously laughed even though it made no sense.
Otherwise, another fascinating interview. It's nice to get away from junket-style soundbites and get to more meat with actors' thoughts of their performances.

I'm not sure Viggo followed me either, but I meant that Swiftboating is a situation where the person is told to prove their veracity under nearly impossible circumstances with the consequences being severe. "Swiftboating" only kills you politically.
