Globes Fading To Black?
Update 6:30p - Word is now that the HFPA will announce this decision by press release tomorrow.
There is a story going around town in a hurry that The Golden Globes show will go on next weekend, but will NOT be televised on NBC.
There is also some question about whether this news, still being leaked as "unofficial" by the HFPA, is true. One of the television partners on the show offered a firm off-the-record denial. But studios are being told.
One thing is clear. Studios are proceeding with party planning as though, as it has been repeatedly noted elsewhere, things are moving forward like usual. No one wants to be seen dissing the HFPA with an eye towards the future.
My sense of it is that HFPA has to keep the idea that the show will go on (on air or off), one way or the other, just to make sure that all the talent is still setting plans to participate. This year, even more than usual, we are looking at a crew of actors who are quite camera shy when playing themselves. For HFPA to admit defeat at this point would assure the no-show of many. Of course, tickets can always be cancelled later if the show doesn't go on. But it's much easier for people to skip it late than it is ro reassemble the talent if there is a last minute reprieve. And everyone but Miramax is working hard on back channel efforts to convince the WGA to bend.
So the news is that people are being told that there will be a show, but no broadcast. And if that is the case, so sayeth one insider, "is it really much more than a big prom?"

Sorry if this brings up unpleasantness, but I have to ask out of insatiable curiousness..
What happened to the Nikki Finke, Tyler Durden blog post?

I am reformulating it to protect the innocent.

This is exactly what Roman and I were talking about here a couple of weeks ago. Given that there will be picket lines set up around the Golden Globes, it is unlikely that there would be much star power at the event, and thus not much in the way of ratings. But we also discussed the likelihood that the event will be picketed no matter what, even though the NY Times article commented that there might not be picketing if there was no telecast.
With what just happened yesterday, it doesn't sound reasonable to expect the Globes to be broadcast, or for there to be much of a turnout there. However, the Oscars will go on come heck or high water.

On a side note, on Deadline Hollywood, Nikki Finke just posted that writer, and WGA member, John Ridley went Fi-Core.
Is it confirmed, or just something to take with a grain of salt?

If he has gone Fi-Core, no one at WGA has been told yet.

I would strongly recommend taking ANYTHING Nikki Finke says with not just a grain but a full shaker of salt. If someone else confirms it, fine. Too many rumors and too much pot stirring for me to rely on her.
