Lunch With... Saoirse Ronan

Likely to be this year's youngest Oscar nominee, 13-year-old Saoirse Ronan has already worked with Peter Jackson, Amy Heckerling, Gillian Armstrong, animator-turned-feature-director Gil Kenan and, of course, Joe Wright, for whom she gave her mesmerizing performance in Atonement.

I would just like to say that i think Atonement was the best film of the year, though i still haven't seen There Will Be Blood.

I liked No Country for Old Men and Michael Clayton, but damnit, but Atonement actually moved me. I felt for the characters, their fates mattered to me. I loved every frame, and i usually loathe thses kind of films. Ronan was pitch perfect in it.

There are so many movies this year that seem to be examining the consequences of mistakes, or the consequences of poor life choices.

No Country and Michael Clayton fall into that mold.

2007 could be my favorite film year ever. Some damn fine films came out in 07.

Nice interview. I reckon interviewing kids of that age is not all that easy. Certainly, it is really nice to see a young actor who is not "cute" or "professional". She still has this unmediated enthusiasm and uncalculated personality... which is what happens all too often with LA/NY child actors.

I gotta assume you meant Gillian Armstrong, director of Death Defying Acts, not Gillian Anderson of the X-Files.
