The Top Ten Chart - Jan 2, 213
We're at 213 lists and things aren't changing much.

Here you can see in the workbook, how after the four highly touted art films and Once, Atonement seems to be the next big passion vote with more than a third of its numbered votes coming in the top two boxes. This bodes well for the Oscar nod. Michael Clayton, on the other hand, has the softest top-2-box support amongst the films with over 250 points. A bad omen?
Let the guessing continue!!!

I still can't quite fathom mainstream (and non-mainstream) critics' tendency to fall over themselves with praise for the Apatow movies while ignoring the genius that was Hot Fuzz, easily the funniest "comedy" I saw this year. I mean seriously, the joke-to-actual-laugh ratio was so much higher in HF than in any of these movies that the critics' willingness to embrace something edgy seems misplaced to me.
Even Grindhouse, a movie similarly made specifically by/for movie nerds got more mentions and, really, why? 'Cause it was more audacious? What good is that if it's only half successful and kind of a chore to sit through?
For me the Wright/Pegg/Frost triumvirate delivered the real "movie movie" of the year, no question. F&*k me, I may have to watch it again tonight.

Loved Hot Fuzz too MarkVH.
But the Knocked Up / Superbad as award winners hype...bit of a reach. Lot of people love those movies, many think they're overrated as well.
I'm somewhat surprised Walk Hard has bombed the way it did, but when they started running FYC ads for it in the trades...man, they were asking to get mocked.
