The Irresistible Force

We have now won east and west, north and south, and across the heartland of this country we love. We have given young people a reason to believe, and brought folks back to the polls who want to believe again. And we are bringing together Democrats and Independents and Republicans; blacks and whites; Latinos and Asians; small states and big states; Red States and Blue States into a United States of America.
This is the new American majority. This is what change looks like when it happens from the bottom up. And in this election, your voices will be heard.

When was the last time a Democratic candidate actually had a reason to campaign in Texas?

Why? Do you think I am choosing to overcome my racism instead of my misogyny?

I never noticed the misogyny until he had a singular target for it on a daily basis.

Believing he could win was key for me. And now, in the last two weeks, I have become a believer... just as I believe that McCain beats Clinton.

I can't believe I'm going to have to vote for a guy who titled a book as moronic as "The Audacity of Hope."

I find Senator Obama to be inspirational, uplifting and definitely a magnet for quote "new politics".
I find many of his ardent supporters obnoxious, narrow-minded and very, very, very Annoying.
Anyone else noticed this? I almost don't want to vote for the guy just to shut his crowd up. They fully believe he's the second-coming and everything (I mean ev-er-y-thing) Senator Clinton does just reaffirms she's a cold-hearted bitch. Frankly, Obama's big mis-step for me was at that NH debate after Iowa when he told Clinton she was "likeable enough". Kind of a dickish thing to say, no? Naturally his supporters would argue against that.
Either one can beat McCain. McCain is best when he's against the ropes, a maverick in his party. When he's the establishment candidate (remember last year?) he falls to pieces.
But the MSM's love affair with McCain bothers me. They really worship the guy and I'm curious if they're going to let him slide and cut Obama off at the knees or really peg him on some of his taking-both sides stances.

Hopscotch, didn't Paul Krugman just write something along those lines (about Obama supporters)? I have definitely noticed it. The MSM does adore McCain. The Chicago Tribune might as well change their name to The Elect John McCain Tribune.

He did write a column about that territory, but I've had that belief for a long while. Again, I do like Obama a lot. I don't think he's a mirage. But his supporters get on my nerves.
I read Andrew Sullivan's blog every single week day for years. I just don't go to his page anymore. What's the point?

if you don't think Obama will have to lay down specifics before the general election, then you're nuts.
He'll win the nomination on platitudes, but that kind of thing doesn't carry you all the way into the white house.

I haven't seen any of Oprah's Obama pitches. Has she been particularily obnoxious? It doesn't seem her style.

No particular celebrity Wrecktum, I've just found among my peers, co-workers, facebook friends, they're insane for the guy.
I don't mind over-excitement, but they as a group get obnoxious.

Oh, I see. Since I never talk politics with co-workers (or my family, frankly), I haven't felt the same wave of excitement. I think talking politics with anyone is about as useful as talking religion or child-rearing: you're bound to offend someone with your opinion, so why bother?

Anghus, uh no. This is old school. This is what helped folks in the past get nominated and elected to the highest office on the planet earth. PEOPLE -- on a mass level -- want a fucking change. We need to cleanse ourselves of the last eight years. Yet people like you come with these rather shallow statements, when the country around you is crying out for something MORE?
Again; I have no idea how you can listen to this man speak, listen to his plans for this country, and do anything more then rejoice. Rejoice at the fact there could be a guy that can make this country great again. If that's a platitude. It's a platitude that the rest of the western world wants to have again. Remember that in the future because this is about more than just US.

Why the Liberal Media worship McCain: He is career military + career politician + DC sleazebag. Plus he comes off as an Angry Old Man.
To find out more, Hopscotch, do a search for the Keating Five. That is where the Liberal Media fall silent now.

I'm well familiar on the Keating Five Scandal, Chuck. Curious why more aren't. The one that bothers me more was that famous "Chelsea's father" joke that McCain told at a fundraiser.
Imagine if a Dem Senator made a joke along those lines about one of the Bush twins? It'd be an all-out war.
How many people know John Kerry is married to an heiress to a large fortune? Many.
How many people know John McCain is married to an heiress to a large fortune? not many.

"The one that bothers me more was that famous 'Chelsea's father' joke that McCain told at a fundraiser."
For those who don't know, the joke goes: "Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly? Because Janet Reno is her father." Please note that McCain made this crack back during the Clinton administration, when Chelsea was probably no more than 16 years old. This, my friends, is reason enough to never, ever vote for the man. Character counts!

obama will never become pres; some white neo-nazi fanatic will get one of his many high-powered rifles and bump him off if he's elected.
just as an aside, you lot are nauseatingly blokey, this blog is in desperate need of some women to liven up the debate

If you think McCain is not ready for the Keating Five talk, then I guess you missed him on the stump last weekend with Phil-F'ing-Keating himself.
I'm no McCainiac by a mile, but if some of you can't see what he's setting Obama up for...well, you must be who Hopscotch was referencing earlier.

Good to see you reaching out and promoting Obama, David. He is a very interesting figure, and he rightfully voted to not give immunity to telecoms this week. Thumbs up to him, and the thirty other Senators.
