Are You A VIP?

My favorite item is that for a $5000 pledge, you still don't get to go to opening night.

But I still wonder about how this all works. The Tribeca Film Festival is still a for-profit business. But the "Tribeca Film Institute," which just announced that TFI and "Renew Media (formerly National Video Resources) founded by The Rockefeller Foundation, will formally combine their organizations and operate going forward under the name of the Tribeca Film Institute."

The release also seems to formalize the theory that this festival is really about real estate, noting, "TFI will join the Tribeca Film Festival's quest for a major physical presence and permanent home in lower Manhattan."

Also... "The new TFI will strive to break the tradition of non-profit arts organizations,” said Brian Newman. “A lot of people are starting to realize that we need to explore new models to have greater impact on the needs of society. Through our combined strengths, we’ll be more entrepreneurial, can make our ideas more scalable for greater impact in the field and contribute to the cultural sustenance of lower Manhattan.”

So for 25 grand you get dinner at Nobu for 2 people but no alcohol. How generous!

Actually on second thoughts I've been to Nobu and I've seen the drinks prices so maybe that's not so ridiculous.

Have you seen the food at Nobu? The meals are the size of a pinky finger.
