Hey, Anglophiles Who Dig 1532 Sex & Intrigue!!!

Can't wait another 11 days to see the first episode of The Tudors, Season 2 on Showtime? Want to get into the soup?

Actually, this is the first episode of the series I've watched from start to finish. Pretty good. Not as much about sex as the ads suggest.

I get dozens of pitches every day, Mutiny. If I didn't think this might be of interest to readers, I wouldn't have run it. But thanks for the spittle.

No, Dave, I meant the way it was written. It reads like a spam e-mail or a spam comment. The language of it.

Actually, HBO and Showtime will be fighting it out on historical miniseries (actually The Tudors is a series). Both are airing on Sunday nights now (I think). HBO got a headstart last week with John Adams so Showtime apparently posted The Tudors early online and on Showtime On Demand. I watched The Tudors last season. HBO's John Adams is really good. I think Showtime smells blood with HBO losing The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, The Wire and ditching Deadwood. Now all they have left of note is that sex show and Big Love, which isn't half bad. Of course, there's always Bill Maher. And since PBS doesn't want to be left out, they're going all Masterpiece Theatre on us for the next month. Say what you want, but it all beats American Idol.

My wife and I tried watching the first season of The Tudors but could not get into it. Rhys Meyers is absolutely awful in the few episodes we managed to sit through.

The Reaper continues his work: Paul Scofield today.

Lot of hot chicks on this show but nothing can compare to OTHER BOLEYN GIRL.

That OWNED.

Though Bana was kind of a rod in it; Portman and Johansson catfighting over his dull ass, and he's acting like he's all put out. Like, get on that shit, Chopper.

Are you havin' a larf? You're havin' a larf!

I only saw A Man for All Seasons for the first time about six months ago, but Scofield was excellent in it, as he was in Quiz Show and plenty of others. RIP.

The one Showtime show I really like, which no one else seems to watch, is Brotherhood. It's similar to The Wire in feel (and audience neglect), but set in the white workingclass city of Providence. It's worth checking out.

i'm a big fan of "brotherhood." i like it better than "sopranos" (which of course is the hbo series i more liken it to). i believe they already got a third season pickup, but don't quote me.

Stella, you make it sound like Jonathan Rhys Myers was ever good in the first place. His woman-chasing ninny routine is stale.

I'm with you there, I really couldn't stand the show. Pretty boring show. I never felt any connection with any of the characters.
