10 To Watch...

I don't know how I fell about the press release I got today that Variety would release its "10 Actors to Watch" list at the Hollywood Awards Gala Ceremony.

Who is trying to leverage who?

Anyway... here is the list I wouldn't be surprised to see...

Dominic Cooper - Mamma Mia! and The Duchess
Essie Davis – Australia
Kat Dennings - Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist
Rebecca Hall – Vicky Cristina Barcelona
Sally Hawkins – Happy Go Lucky
Robert Pattinson – Twilight
Amanda Seyfried – Mamma Mia!
Carice Van Houten – Body of Lies

And… someone from Miracle At St. Anna

I swear half the movies on Hulu must star Franco Nero. So far, I've seen him in Enter the Ninja, as a white ninja with a '70s porno mustache, and now I'm watching 21 Hours at Munich, where he's a Palestinian terrorist.

Variety should give him an award.

I like Kat Dennings. It's nice to see an actress her age who actually has comic timing and isn't just a simpering, slack-jawed blonde with big tits.

Based on the trailer (and the fact that he's also in Avatar next year), the likely hypothetical St. Anna representative would be Laz Alonso.

Dominic Cooper was woeful in Mamma Mia. That's all.

Adami,

Dominic Cooper was woeful in Mamma Mia! but then again, the same could be said for just about all the cast... the "singing" just about saved it... and that singing came from the audience with which I watched it.

But back to good ole' Dominic. I think he is a blank. I can't remember him at all from The Escapist, but to be fair, The History Boys was an ensemble.

For once, Lex and I are in 100% agreement.

I believe Essie Davis was "one to watch" about five years ago.

Sally Hawkins *is* wonderful in HAPPY-GO-LUCKY, but that's a love it or hate it kind of movie.

Robert Pattinson. For sure.

Robert Pattinson is going to be a huge movie star. He has the talent, charisma, looks and screen presence to get to the very top.

Dominic Cooper is the only one on the list I would disagree with. Mind you it could be worse, you could have added Ben Barnes. Essie Davis is an excellent actress.

I agree Robert Pattinson will be a huge star and actually has the talent to stay at the top. He was very impressive in The Haunted Airman and 'How To Be'. Really looking forward to seeing him as Salvador Dali in Little Ashes. Also curious to learn more about his new film 'Parts Per Billion' with Olivia Thirlby. Love to see him play Perseus in the reboot of Clash of the Titans.

I have to agree when it comes to Robert Pattinson. A very diverse and brilliant actor. He's definitely someone to watch for. He has two small films coming out after Twilight that I think will really showcase what he's made of, "Little Ashes" and "How To Be". He's also brought amazing characters to life previous to his Twilight role. He's going to stand apart from many of the Hollywood actors today. He has so much more to offer. I can't wait for the rest of the world to find out.
