On this first one, I would actually love to hear some ideas of how this filmmaker is malking what seems to be real life look like ants on a scale model... I am fascinated.
Beached from Keith Loutit on Vimeo.

Re: Video 1. There was lots of informative discussion of tilt-shift photography on this Ask Metafilter thread in April, including a link to this how-to page. Nifty!
Re: Video 2. One of the skeletons that's been lurking in Obama's closet for awhile now is that he fathered two children with a black woman. Can you believe it? Will Americans accept it?

the second one's hilarious!
seems like a whole lot of people have got their fingers crossed for Nov 4th... even on my side of the puddle! I live in a provincial capital in Spain, and when people hear me mention the States they almost always ask if I get to vote, then if I have... and then kind of scared "for whom?"

On Loutit's site, he writes, "I am a Sydney based photographer. These photographs and short films were made in ordinary places, probably not too unlike where you live. Combining a variety of techniques including tilt-shift and time-lapse photography, I aim to present Sydney as the Model City, and help people take a second look at places that are very familiar to them. I aim to upload new scenes at the end of every week."

That's not stop-motion? Freaky.
The stuff in the second video -- yeah, it's true. You can read all about it at the Shakopee library.

a workmate who knows a bit about tilt-shift photography showed me this 'ohgizmo' site (link below); it has a good 'after/before' comparison of the same photo of the cool otira viaduct bridge down south (scroll down the camera article past the motorway pic to get to the comparison), which clearly shows how the photo was altered to make the bridge and surrounds appear 'miniature'. trippy.
