The Rape Of Indy
Why doesn't the South Park shot at Spielberg & Lucas mean anything buy a few tense phone calls?
$500 million in their pocket with no financial exposure on Indy IV.
If they are in the mood, Indy V will happen. Paramount will pay for it and take nothing but distribution again, though this time they may not get as much as 12.5%.
Of course, the really unfortunate part about this is that the slam by Stone & Parker was one of their weakest efforts. How many times can you say, "They raped Indiana Jones" before the joke is done? Where was the next, funnier, idea, whether "ET vs Yoda" or "Transformer Jaws" or Lucas & Speilberg being controled by aliens or Scientologists... I don't know. They are often brilliant and unexpected. This things was a fart joke trading on the word 'rape." Yawn.

Kinda tasteless considering THE ACCUSED was based on a real case, not just a "hommage" as one online dolt wrote. These guys can be funny, just not as funny as they think.

While I very much enjoyed KotCS, I also enjoyed this episode. I'll grant the overall tastelessness of the "The Accused" segment, but the "Howard the Duck" pinball machine was a great touch. Lucas licking Ford's nipples and making an O-face also were quite funny.
David, did you see their previous Lucas-Spielberg mockery?

Trey and Matt were to some extent making fun of the way fanboys go on and on about how "Lucas raped my childhood" by literalizing that complaint and showing how absurd a thing to say it is.
Not one of their funniest efforts, regardless.

On top of not being especially funny the Indy rape stuff was tenuously connected to the A-story about Cartman and the Chinese which felt underdeveloped and poorly focused as satire. I've watched the episode twice and I'm still not certain what argument Parker and Stone are trying to make.
And for the record, I'm about as big a South Park apologist as they come.

The whole problem with this episode, stems from the simple fact, that this B-plot had nothing more going for it than getting Cartman and Butters out of a jam. Those two characters were in a real jam, and need something stupid to get them out of it.
So the rape stuff was good for a shock, but the episode ends with Butters stating he likes the movie. Which totally undermines the entire RAPE SATIRE bullshit.

Wow... dead on, IO.
Smart, simple, and not loud.
Excellent.

Yeah, I thought the episode was one of their lamer ones. The rape jokes, while cleverly executed, got old really, really fast. Parker and Stone are a lot better when they're making fun of the real world than when they're making fun of Hollywood.

I liked it. many of the South Park episodes are a little half baked, but I never hold it against them. I laughed when Jimmy and Stan were talking and Jimmy goes "the part with the fridge just didn't make any sense".
IOIO,I don't get how Butters saying he liked the movie undermined the rape satire. Butters is supposedly lame and uncool.

MDOC has it exactly right when it comes to Butters' role in the series, and how his "KotCS" comment played into it.

CARTOONS ARE FOR CHILDREN, MAN THE FUCK UP AND WATCH THE SHIELD INSTEAD OF THIS ANIMATION BULLSHIT.
BE A GOD.
YOUR COMMANDER HAS SPOKEN.

The last three seasons of The Shield have been more of a cartoon than South Park is. Lex, please use The Wire in all future attempts to appear masculine through television watching.

Please, like VENDRELL doesn't own shit like Carcetti.
And Omar? Yeah, NOT CARTOONISH AT ALL.
POSEURS TALK UP THE WIRE. GODS WATCH THE SHIELD.

MDOC: Butters was supposed to go away the moment Kenny returned. He has not. He's such a good character, that a CARTMAN AND BUTTERS show should be a spin-off. Kyle, Stan, and Kenny have nothing on Cartman and Butters together. Absolutely nothing. So you can believe that Butters is lame if you want, but he rules. He rules, Cartman rules, and every other character is filler.
Oh yeah Lex: FUCK VIC MACKEY! LONG LIVE SAM CROW! "Fire or blade."

Randy Marsh might be the funniest character outside of those two. He's definitely not filler. How he transformed in the later seasons from the first couple is hilarious. Everything's an overreaction.

Lex: You don't think South Park rates an exception from your "cartoons are for children" rule? It OWNS in so many Lexian ways, I'm shocked by your dismissal of it.
IO: I don't think MDOC meant to imply that Butters is a lame and uncool character; merely that he's considered as such WITHIN the show.

Thanks yancy, that's exactly what I mean about Butters.
One of the secrets to South Park's longevity is the introduction of new characters. They went from Timmy, to Jimmy, to Butters, all bring something new.
Jimmy's first episode with Big Gay Al as the scout leader may be the funniest of all time. Right next to it is when Jimmy and Timmy become Crypts. Anyone that doesn't understand how funny South Park can be needs to seek out those episodes.
On another Blog I saw some idiot saying he'll never let his kids watch South Park again. Are you kidding me? 6 years ago they did an episode which followed a gerbil's quest through Mr Garrison's lover's rectum (that was before his sex change where they inserted a quick cut from an actual sex change operation). South Park straddling the boundries of taste is nothing new.

Any parent who would let their kids watch SOUTH PARK is a fucking idiot. I'm just sayin'.

South Park is capable of being smart, even brilliant. The joke concept was funny but they just ran it into the ground. The show gets ugly too often for me.
And two of the of rape scenes parodied, from the Accused and from Boys Don't Cry, are based on real-life stories.... really, should we go there?

Comedy can go anywhere. But of course no one is obliged to follow.
They definitely ran the Indy gag into the ground, though not quite as much as the Tom Cruise/closet stuff in the Scientology episode. The laughter it got from me was much more in the vein of "OMG that's outrageous" than "OMG that's hilarious."
