Give It To Bushie
You know... a guy has two shoes thrown at him... and comes up smirking... gotta kinda admire that kind of Maverickiness.

True, these are the only shoes that have come Bush's way that didn't end up in his mouth, but... seriously folks... tip your waitresses...

True, but dude's arm wasn't the greatest. Couldn't hit the target from five feet in two tries.
Given that, he might have a future at quarterback for UCLA.

BUSH OWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWNS.
GREATEST PRESIDENT EVER (and thanks again for the 600 BUCKS, sir.)
As always, unflappable, spry, funny and AWESOME. All making awesome jokes and dodging that thing like a pro.
Obama would still be on hour 10 of his boring press conference nervously explaining himself and being indignant.
BUSH JUST OWNS EVERYONE AND MOVES ON.
Is it too late for a THIRD TERM?
BUSH RULES.

Okay, I think seven or eight consecutive retarded Lex posts (spread over four threads) gives me the right to say, Lex, you are a fucking shithead loser who deserves every bad thing that happens to you.
And all of that would be no big deal if you would just BE FUNNY!

Still no news about Obama and Blagojevich. Guess you're just as selective in the news and philosophically if it isn't reported there is no news.

Actually, I'm quite glad that DP is sticking to movies and the movie industry instead of getting mired in Blagojevich (and Obama had nothing to do with him, to rebut that nascent trope).
And the point of any comparison with Saddam is that five years ago, he was the one being hit (in proxy form) with shoes, and now it's Bush.

From FireDogLake: the shoe-thrower reportedly is being tortured: "Credible reports started to come in from Arabic sources that Muntader Al Zaida is in very bad shape:Raed in the Middle reports:
Albaghdadia, the TV channel where the Iraqi Journalist Montather Al-Zeidi works, reports that an Iraqi MP (Ms. Zainab Al-Kanani) informed them that Montather’s hand was broken in jail.
This confirms a lot of reports and rumors about Montather being subject to torture while the Iraqi authorities are interrogating and detaining him in some unspecified location.
From Roads to Iraq:
Iraqi TV al-Sharqiya just reported on the news that AL-Zaidi is transferred to Camp Cropper prison [the Airport prison, managed by the American forces].
The TV Channel announced that Al-Zaidi is in a difficult condition, with broken ribs and signs of tortures on his thighs. Also he can not move his right arm.
I've checked the translation of this account with markfromireland of GorillasGuides who says this report sounds "about right" and is very credible. He also notes the reported injuries would be consistent with repeated severe kicking of Al Zaida.
Al Sharqiya is a major news outlet with a good reputation for credible reporting."

That'll show him we mean democracy! Torture!
And the "liberal" media hasn't made any connection to this man's impotent rage and the Senate report blaming George Bush and Rumsfeld for sanctioning torture.
Go fuck yourselves Bush lovers. You too Lex.

Thanks Ray, but I think I'll wait for the AP or Reuters or the NYT or CNN to report what would obviously be a major development in a story making international headlines. Until then, feel free to believe a story from firedoglake.com(?) via Raed in the Middle(?) via "Albaghdadia"[sic], making the rounds on the far left blogs.

LEX: Count me as one of the guys who LOL at your stuff. Your whole schtick is funny, sir.
I think this whole thing was stupid and quite awful. These people don't want us there? I say bring all our boys home and let them cut each other's heads off. God bless 'em.
Pretty sad to see Americans thinking this is a good thing. It's a dumb thing and to see people write things like "too bad it wasn't a bomb (and yes, I've seen that on more than one site today)" online is just sad and pathetic. I'm no Bush fan, at all, but if someone had done this to Obama, you guys would've hit the roof, ranting and raving.

EOTW, it is sad, and tragic. For other reasons. This journalist was illegally detained before by Al Qaida and US forces. Mainly, he's seen families destroyed by our occupation.
And since the "liberal media" seems to diffuse the part of his rant about "widows and orphans" he's worth taking seriously as an example of the real Iraqi people so many American phonies have paid lip service to in favor of the illegal invasion. "To save them."
Hopefully, he'll survive his torture.

EOTW, it's not schtick, this is the true unbared id of the guy, and as such is more pathological than anything else.
For Lex, every day is the day the clown cried, except that his clowning wasn't that great to begin with, more in the vein of a drunk dude who happened to wander on stage and everyone thought his funny Foster Brooksisms were designed and intentional.

Oh, and also, EOTW, and Christian, the other reason why this is ultimately sad and tragic is that it shows how degraded the institution of the Presidency has become in the last 8 years. The man is a walking joke and he doesn't even know it (that lack of objectivity and self-awareness is what Lex is ironically lauding).

"Who throws a shoe? Honestly! You fight like a woman!"
In middle eastern custom (or maybe it's just one country, I'm not entire sure) showing someone the sole of your shoe is seen as the ultimate insult. Much like Lex's drunken rants are the ultimate Hot Blog repellent. And I wonder why I don't spend as much time here anymore.

"MP, you did note my caveats: citing the source and indicating "reportedly" outside of the quotation marks. Citing, not vouching. One hopes all is swell."
But the problem with citing sources so flimsy is that it perpetuates hearsay that people like christian take as fact (and probably spread to other sites).
"the other reason why this is ultimately sad and tragic is that it shows how degraded the institution of the Presidency has become in the last 8 years."
I don't see this incident as an example of that. Bush has acted appropriately. To me, the response is another example of how some people will take any opportunity to spew invective at Bush.
Kamikazi- Perhaps you're just using what I wrote as a jumping-off point to inform, but my post was a quote from Austin Powers, not a commentary on the incident.

Here's a slightly more credible source that addresses the 'custody abuse' allegations. A pertinent passage:
"Durgham Zaidi [brother of the shoe thrower] was unable to say whether Muntazer had sustained the injuries while being overpowered during Sunday's protest against Bush's visit to Baghdad or while in custody."
Posted by: mysteryperfecta

I bet you were up in arms over the bipartisan senate report showing that Bush and Rumsfeld are directly responsible for the torture at Abu Grahib and elsewhere.
And Lex, the fact that Bush is smirking in the face of what could have been a jar of acid or not understanding that some Iraqi's don't view us "liberators" is not OWNAGE -- it's STUPIDITY.
You think "not giving a fuck" is a President's advantage? Well, you probably do...

And mystery, since Breitbart is your go-to-place for truth, here's the latest from left wing site Drudge:
The journalist's brother, meanwhile, said he has a broken arm and ribs after being struck by Iraqi security agents.
Durgham Zaidi was unable to say whether Muntazer had sustained the injuries while being overpowered during Sunday's protest against Bush's visit to Baghdad or while in custody later.
He said he had been told that his brother was initially held by Iraqi forces in the heavily fortified Green Zone compound in central Baghdad where the US embassy and most government offices are housed.
"He has got a broken arm and ribs, and cuts to his eye and arm," said Durgham.

If some random person's blog is now "news", then journalism is in a sorrier state of affairs than I imagined.
"Assaulted? Insulted."
Legally, it is assault.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20081218/ts_nm/us_iraq_bush_shoes
His family is now attributing his injuries to the scuffle that happened post-shoe throw, and NOT TORTURE. Don't be too disappointed.
If the guy apologized (and according to the Iraqi PM's office, he has), he should lose his credentials for events of this sort, and otherwise receive a (figurative) slap on the wrist.
