Understanding Drama
Dexter, the Showtime series, was always good. But this season, in taking away the isolation of the Dexter character and forcing him into dealing with relationships, both in his public and private life, it has become, perhaps, the best show on television.
The first step came last season, as Dexter was also given people who knew his secrets. But this year, those relationships have become much more intimate because they are relationships of equals (of sorts).
A great lesson in writing.

I agree 100%. This weekend's episode was fucking AMAZING. The chess game going on between these two cats is heightened drama of the greatest sort. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

Dave,
Have you watched the final season of The Shield. Mad Men current season, Lost this past season, The Wire final season, Generation Kill, Battlestar Galactica, etc?
I would place all of these series above Dexter (which I would put in top 10 but in the lower half)as better candidates for television series of the year 2008. Mainly, because these other series have supporting characters that are as or even more interesting than their lead characters. It took Dexter 3 seasons to come up with 1st interesting supporting character in Jimmy Smits' Miguel Prado...who really needs to win all sorts of awards for this career performance.

I love Dexter. Excellent show. I think I preferred season one, but that's because - perhaps - MAJOR SPOILERS FOR ANYONE WHO ISN'T WATCHING SEASON 3 I hate the idea of a baby being introduced. Of course, the last episode I watched ended with the "next week on Dexter" alluding to maybe the loss of the baby.
But, still, I sometimes wish TV shows could do what soap operas do and magically make babies grow up 18 years over night.
Still, love that show. I've never been a Smits fan, but even I like him quite a bit here.
And btw, Jaime Murray and Keira Knightley need to play sisters in something plzthnx!

The best SHOW ON TELEVISION? Three words to put in your pipe and fucking smoke it: GO TEAM VENTURE! There is no equal. Deal. Especially in a world where Seeley and Booth could figure out Dexteer in about... as much time as it would take Angela to hit on another dame. Take it outside, that's where trash belongs.

Fucking hell. Seeley and Temperance could gaffle Dexter with the quickness. Seriously; you do not get Pattinson, but you get this whack-ass show. You sir are what we call in the business; "A Ponderous Dance Number in the Making."

Dexter is really amazing this season and after last week's episode, I'm dying to know how the writers are going to convincingly extricate Dex from this situation. It seems every season that the writers have painted themselves into a corner and yet each season, they go further, deeper into Dex's psyche. I especially love that he has gradually become more human because of his relationship with Rita. As much as he pretends to not care about humanity in general, watch as he tries to guide Batista away from making a terrible mistake. Really great stuff.
