Fox Releases Bond
I got a note today about the DVD release of Quantum of Solace... from Fox.
Ouch to the Sony.
I assumed that even though other MGM product went to FoxHE, that Sony would at least retain what they released into theaters. Nope.
Even worse, the release plays up all the box office figures that Sony went out and earned as the marketer/distributor... and yet, EON and MGM and Fox Home Ent are all given corporate info space... but the words Sony and/or Columbia do not exist on this press release.
But if you "Join in the fun as well at www.007.com, a site that has trailers, clips, photo galleries, and more!," you get... duh... Sony's Bond site.
What, indeed, have you done for me lately?

Fox now have the rights to release the current Bond films as well? Damn. Sony are getting screwed on this one.

Sony, the best thing to happen to Bond overseas in ages, flushed away by MGM, nearly on life support due to... Bond.
Hooboy.

Scoot: FOX usually keep their regular ATTENTION logo on the down-low with Bond. If you look at the back of the case in the lower right hand corner. You should see a FOX logo. This is how they have done it for a while.

Perhaps you got slipped an international (non-US/Canada) handout. Fox releases MGM titles outside North America.

Chuck; they also release MGM titles insides. Thus explaining the Great Escape, Ronin, Guys and Dolls, and few other MGM special editions that FOX has put out. I am just surprised they would be able to release a modern Bond film, when such a thing would not be under their purview.

Any opinions on Danny Boyle for the next bond film?

Scooter - you are probably holding a theatrical awards/review screener, thus the inclusion of the Sony logo.
Sony home video rights on CASINO ROYALE expire soon as well, thus the double dip Blu-Ray/DVD release a few months ago through SPHE. I believe all of these interim titles (PINK PANTHER 2006, CAPOTE, etc) return to MGM in 2010 or shortly thereafter.
EON may well extend their option for the next Bond release with Sony (as Dave believes they will do), but box office receipts on this series have been on a steady upwards trajectory for over a decade, and EON holds EON responsible for that, no one else.

I like the idea of Boyle doing a Bond film, as long a Cillian Murphy is not the bad guy, but doing it immediatly after winning the oscar seems a bit crass.

Perhaps, but if Boyle WANTS to do a mega-budget action film, this is likely the only window he's gonna get, so he should grab it now and then go back to his usual small, personal pics.

I wouldn't call Boyle's films heavily 'personal'.

Well, not personal in the autobiogaphical sense, but in the sense that he tells stories that interest him, not the vapid cookie-cutter rubbish that the major studios routinely turn out.
