The Embargo Dance

CORRECTION, 7:33p - It's been that kind of day. I am told by a figure of profound authority at the NYT that, in fact, the Paper of Record will hold its review until 9p-pst/12a-est on Thursday night.

Huzzah, as the Gray Lady knows, it seems, that being important is not a matter of being first, but of being best.

The Orlando Sentinel's Roger Moore shows superhero powers of his own, going 4 days forward in time with the publication of this Friday-dated interview on Monday. Super!

And for anyone who is anxious to question what rules MCN will be following, we have informed WB that we plan on holding our reviews until Wednesday, even though critics national and local, daily and weekly, print and web, have been running reviews since last week. We also expect that the notion of an embargo will be crushed on Wednesday at 9p when the New York Times is expected to run its "Thursday" review in anticipation of the midnight release of the film on Thursday.

Warner Bros is an ass farm if they think the embargo's still on if, as you say, "critics national and local, daily and weekly, print and web" really have been running reviews since last week. MCN should have informed the studio that, "in light of the absence of any visible repercussions for those who've violated the embargo up til now, we are assuming it no longer exists (if it ever really had in the first place), and shall do what we damn well like. Please have this hat for your ass".

Not that I'd expect this to happen in a million years.

"ass farm"? Did the jerk store call too?

What's wrong with the phrase "ass farm"? It conjures up the most bucolic scene of embargo-enforcing mules standing at the publishing gates, letting some early reviewers through while making others wait in line.

Okay, maybe there's a little more representation there than actually exists in the words "ass farm". I do a very fine parsing.

Embargo concerns aside, it is now about 9:30am PST, and the Orlando Sentinel still has that Watchmen review up on its site with the March 6 dateline. I'm sorry if I'm being nitpicky, but how am I supposed to trust a newspaper that can't even get today's DATE right? Even if the review only accidentally posted to the website early, they've had more than enough time by now to correct that little fucking detail. I guess I'll try asking them this question.

Gentle needling has now commenced on the Orlando Sentinel's website.
