Why all the hating on Monsters vs Aliens here? Not a perfect movie by any means, but I was entertained, it was the best 3-D I've ever seen, and speaking as the father of a 14 year old-the Girrrrl power message was cool.
Some great moments with Stephen Colbert and Kiefer Sutherland as well.

You know, it's weird, we're less than three days away, and I'm not really feeling ADVENTURELAND.
Just looks kinda wan and beige, I'm sick of the Wiig/Hader package deal, and I think the glow of K-STEW is starting to wane a bit.
I might not even see it. I've officially overdosed on THE STEW.

A workprint of Wolverine been leaked onto the internet a month before it's released pisses me off.

Based on just the trailer, WOLVERINE LOOKS LIKE IT WAS SHOT IN A WAREHOUSE.
WHERE IS THE SCOPE, PEOPLE?

Caught The Royal Tenenbaums on IFC on Monday night. Rushmore has always been my favorite Wes Anderson movie, but I'll be darned if TRT hasn't creeped up to a near tie after repeated viewings (I was a little underwhelmed by the film the first time I saw it, while Rushmore clicked immediately). Not perfect, but a masterpiece nonetheless.

Always liked Tenenbaums a slight bit better than Rushmore. Anyone else think that the trailers for Away we go and Where the Wild Things are look extremly Andersonish?

Can't stand Wig. Totally overexposed and about as one-note as an SNL'er can get. Jan Hooks, while always good, now looks like a master thespian.

Terriible about Wolverine. The ramifications are worrisome. A great excuse to lobby away some internet freedom.

SlashFilm reported there was going to be a Matrix sequel... thank god it was just an April Fool's joke!

CBS FILMS
Les Moonves will try and "leverage" (get free shit) from all his other CBS properties to "control" the marketing costs for the film business. Four quadrant movies that appear they will appeal to zero quadrants. What a fine distribution and marketing team assembled, with a solid business model in this economy. Bizarrely, right after I read DPo's headline, I read this article in popdose (my favourite music blog) all about Phil Collins' currently underrated drumming: http://popdose.com/mix-six-phil-collins-session-drummer/ For me, the Genesis song "no reply at all" shows off his drum stylings best...

The worst thing about the internet? April Fools Day. Those two things go together like gasoline and Zippos.
Here's a great idea for a holiday: lie to someone and then laugh at them when they believe you. Almost as good as punching someone because they're not wearing green. March is a shitty month for holidays.

Lex getting over K-Stew? And the time-stamp is March 31, not April 1? I'm with scooter -- this may be another end of days sign.

Dave, have a great flight. But remember -- feeling yourself while flying in the air will not qualify you for the mile-high club. Oh lord.

Remember when WB wouldn't hold on to "Slumdog Millionaire"? Fox cashes in big in theatrical and then totally farks up the DVD release.

The arrival of a new FAST AND FURIOUS movie is, to me, on par with what a new Star Wars is to most, so I'll like it regardless...
But kinda bummed that the early reviews are pretty ho-hum and the hype seems to have strangely died down in these weeks/days before its release.
I know that's not surprising to some of you, but with this one, starting with the earliest trailer, seemed like they were going out of their way to come up with a cool campaign for it, and ads that featured some pretty impressive standalone action beats. I was legitimately hoping for a solid reboot -- that trailer with the truck stunt, and especially the one with the Paul Walker chase on foot, seemed cooler, edgier, more Greengrass than the series norm.
But the recent TV spots are just emphasizing the same old: multicultural kids doing street races at night. That's fine but I thought this one was more of an epic scale adventure movie or something.
Huge Jordana Brewster fan usually, but her face looks CGI'd in the trailer or something.

This is going to be IMPORTANT:
I am currently pissed that I haven't made it to Laemmle's Sunset or Monica to catch EDUCATION OF CHARLIE BANKS. I really wanted to see it, both because I've heard it's quite good, and because I wanted to support Durst's directing career.
But I see tomorrow is its last night at Laemmle theaters. WHY do things keep getting yanked in ONE WEEK FLAT in the MOVIE CAPITAL OF THE WORLD?
I'm glad it got some theaters screens at all, and it's my own dumb fault for going to work instead of seeing his flick (and DEFINITELY my fault for choosing HAUNTING IN CONNECTICUT instead last weekend simply because it was closer.)
But as my fellow Valley dwellers might testify, Santa Monica is out of the question during the week, unless you got to the 10pm show. And thanks to traffic, the Sunset is the same way... NO fucking way you can get in or out of Hollywood for a 7:15 show. Especially since I don't get off work til after that.
Now I have to wait for DVD, which is ALWAYS a piss poor substitute for theaters, just because of the sheer number of distractions, and because a movie can't 100% command your attention when you know you can stop it at any time.
Also, the KEIRA-SIENNA lesbian flick also got ONE SINGLE WEEK in all of L.A.
Let some of this shit get some word of mouth.
300,000 SCREENS in this town, and only two of them can free up a week for Durst.
Maybe I should call the fuck off work tomorrow to go support Fred.
