And So It Ends...

Deal done.

AFTRA merger next.

SAG, as we know it, becomes a rubber stamp for AMPTP, much like the DGA, but with everything to lose that DGA doesn't much worry about.

I'll be thrilled to be wrong.

And the sad truth is, there was no better answer at this point.

AMPTP gave away exactly what it planned on giving away - to all the unions - and played them all against each other like Itzhak Perlman. They would have given up more, but were never pressed to do so. And two years from now, you can be 99.9% sure, AMPTP will look like they have suffered as a group, not grown, so there will be no make-ups.

And talented as the talent is, no one - or at least, no more than one - will hit the jackpot by making internet TV shows at home or, as it were, in the barn. Sorry. Lovely to own your soul. When you make as much as you do for a TV chat show appearance for an episode of a half-hour web-based sitcom, call me.

AMPTP - and you can bet they love Ari Emanuel for pretending to be in charge of this town in the papers - is in charge. And they will oversee the further deconstruction of the studios and the unions, followed, I suspect, by a bottoming out and, finally, a rise. I only hope they have some legitimate idea of where this is all going because some days, it looks like everyone is flying by the seat of their pants. And when that plane goes down, no one will walk away with all of their limbs.

Cue Bluto's speech from Animal House in order to explain how shenanigans will break out again. The tech will change again, people will get up in arms, and rinse and repeat.

I guess I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up that the title of the entry was going to be a Lex G death notice, or at least a formal cancellation of his Movie City News gig (which I imagine everyone here assumes is over anyway).
