More PR Pap Pretending To Be News
TRANSFORMERS 2
As of today, U.S. ticket sales at MovieTickets.com for “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” are outpacing ticket sales for “Transformers” by almost 3-to-1 at the same point in the sales cycle – eight days prior to each film’s release.
Interestingly, IMAX ticket sales at MovieTickets.com for “Transformers 2” account for close to half of all ticket sales for the film.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Outselling Star Trek and the Original Transformers on Fandango
(Los Angeles – June 17, 2009) Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen doesn’t open till next week (midnight on Tuesday night, June 23), but as of today, the film already represents 45% of ticket sales on Fandango, the nation’s leading moviegoer destination.
Several Tuesday midnight show times of the film’s IMAX presentation are already sold-out at locations across the country, including Los Angeles’ AMC Universal CityWallk; Chicago’s Cinemark @Seven Bridges and Regal Lincolnshire 20; Philadelphia’s UA King of Prussia Stadium; and New York City’s AMC Loews 34th Street and AMC Loews Lincoln Square (where a 4:00 a.m. show time on Wednesday morning has been added to meet fan demand). Tuesday midnight show times are also sold-out in Albuquerque, Atlanta, Colorado Springs, Denver, Houston, Nashville, Orlando, and American Fork, Utah.
The film is currently outpacing this summer’s Star Trek movie and the original Transformers in advance ticket sales on Fandango at the same point in those films’ sales cycles (one week before release date). Moviegoers purchasing tickets for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen on Fandango will receive a free music download of Cavo’s Let it Go from the film’s soundtrack as a bonus; details of the promotion are available at www.fandango.com/promo/transformers.
“For nearly two years – since the last Transformers opened – this new movie has been one of the most highly-anticipated films among fans on our site,” says Rick Butler, Chief Operating Officer of Fandango. “Tickets for the new Transformers are already selling fast, so moviegoers should plan on buying their tickets in advance, as showtimes are continuing to sell out.”
Fandango has surveyed nearly 2,000 moviegoers planning to see Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Among the findings:
· 88% of respondents said they are fans of director Michael Bay; 66% of them picked Transformers as their favorite Bay film.
· 77% of respondents say they were fans of Transformers when they were kids; 68% of those fans watched the cartoon series, while 61% played with the toys.
· 45% picked Optimus Prime as their favorite Transformer; 21% picked Bumblebee; 4% picked Megatron.
· 62% of respondents are 18-34 years old; 63% are male.
In a separate survey on Fandango, 36% of moviegoers picked Transformers star Megan Fox as the sexiest female star of the summer.

Where is this transpiring?

Gosh, I sure hope Transformers 2 is outselling Star Trek and the first Transformers film. I'm sure Paramount would be displeased with the $70 million and $79 million three-day that those two films racked up respectively.
As for the Megan Fox thing, who else is there this summer? More than even normal for summer films, the female roles are just background noise for many major tent pole pictures.

Fox was certainly the most impressive thing in the first movie, which is sort of a shame. Hundreds of millions spent on giant fighting robots and all I remember is the jailbait.

Agreed with Scott-- with so few sexy female stars, tent poles are limper than usual this year.

for crying out loud, jeff, they haven't even started pre-vis on 'transpiring' yet, the distant-future sequel set in the 'old decommissioned robot's home', wherein our aging, rusted heroes the autobots, all on respirators, are dying oh so slowly (to be directed by ron howard, 'cocoon' style)

"36% of moviegoers picked Transformers star Megan Fox as the sexiest female star of the summer."
Fuck yeah.

Oh when will there be a GI JOE / TRANSFORMERS cross-over movie? Please make it happen Don. MCG or Anderson can helm.

LexG. The Hollywood genie can offer you, yes you only Lex, the chance to have sex with Megan Fox but the price you have to pay is you'll only achieve a soft-on and the whole ordeal is streamed live on the web. Do you accept the genies conditions?

Hey guys, remember when your movie had to be really GOOD to make $300 million domestic?
Heh heh heh... those were the good old days.
The days... before... the machines.

JBD, between my usual booze intake and self-loathing inferiority complex, unfortunately it'd probably be soft city with or without cameras. But I'd still be down. Hell yeah.

Lex. I'm just going with my intuition but is THE BOOST a favourite of yours? Sometimes I imagine a parallel world where your life at 23 arriving to LA could have played out like Jimmy Woods. Did you ever have a Sean Young beside you to party with, in those formative LA years, when your hair was rocking like Lorenzo Lamas in the Crest days?

Am I the only one not snarky/cynical enough here to actually want to see TF2? To me there's a lot of poser blockbuster out there this summer, but this one feels like the real deal. June 24th can't come soon enough.

If I had the choice of letting Rex Reed teabag me or watching TF2.. I'd brush my teeth in preparation.

I'm neither snarky nor cynical when it comes to summer blockbusters and I'm not especially interested in Transformers 2. The first one was passable entertainment but the marketing for the sequel has been underwhelming. The trailers are no fun and the posters are terrible.

Martin, I very much want to see Transformers 2 in a very serious way, not at all ironically.

I don't think I have to be cynical or snarky to avoid T2. The first one was childish and stupid (pissing motor oil?), Shia delivered a spastic asthmatic performance and I can't sit through another two hours of that, especially to drop ten bucks to do it. Bring on Dillinger.

And then you could change your name from "Jeffrey Boam's Doctor" to "Rex Reed's Kettle".

The silver lining on Tr2: all the other auditoriums will be free of texting, cell-phoning, food-throwing teens, leaving old farts like me to enjoy WHATEVER WORKS in peace.
