Hidden just out of frame: a bong with brown water, a crusty Stouffer's macaroni & cheese tray and, down below, blue-green plaid boxers and raggedy bunny slippers over white gym socks with ruined elastics.

I like reading.

No offense, DP, but if you can't find anything really enthusiastic or critical to say, why bother? It's not like there are people on the fence about this one anyway; either they're either going to see it or not, regardless of anyone's review.

Mutiny: Any room for a large white cat licking crumbs out of the mac & cheese tray?

i think these video reviews are hilarious. DP (nice tan) just keeps getting more and more cazh (casual), the next one he won't even bother getting out of bed

These videos are just too much win. Having an image to go along with Davey Boy's out of touchness, is too god damn funny. Congrats on the kids sir, or should I call you... HEATFELD!

Congrats on the kid, and get over freakin Azkaban. Really Heatfeld. Really.

If there's no "magic" in a Harry Potter movie, then something is verrrrrrry wrong, and far far far from "fine".

The last couple of films were so damn frustrating in that not only was the whole not greater than the sum of its parts, but even the parts seems to be worth so much less here than anywhere else. I'm sorry but if you have access to Gary Oldman, Ralph Fiennes, Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman, Imelda Staunton, Maggie Smith, Brendan Gleeson, Jason Isaacs and 4/5ths of the rest of Great Britain's working actors and you're NOT producing ANY kind of overall greatness with your work, YOU'RE COCKING IT UP.

It also doesn't help matters that the material in the movies produced so far seem like they could all fit into ONE of the actual books.

These are just straight up honest, no BS reviews that print somehow obscures. At the very least, we're receiving an intimate, piece by piece tour of the abode.

Very much enjoying the video reviews. Keep 'em coming.

We've come a long way, years, since we wondered what our favorite 'Samoan Wrestler' looked like - I do very much enjoy these video reviews and I like Poland's informative, casual and personal style.

Keep 'em coming, Dave.

Yeah, these vid reviews are a good time. Sounds like this is pretty much in line with the sixth book (and fifth), in that nothing of any consequence really happens. Book 4 was the last one that was truly pivotal, and I thought the movie did a nice job of capturing the high points (I still don't get the overabundance of love for Cuaron's film, though it is better than the Columbus ones).

Regardless, everything after that was pretty much just treading water until the end with a couple of big character deaths thrown in to stir the pot. In Book 5 that sort of bothered me, in 6 not so much because I enjoyed all the Hogwarts 90210 stuff. Looking forward to this.

D-Po, please keep the lighting of the last video. This one doesn't do any favor to your skin tone and overall look.

I love these video reviews, but they seem to stimulate more comments about how David looks and what kind of background decor is in the frame than about the movies.

I agree waterbucket, I can't watch these videos if they're not lit well for DP's skin tone.

DP needs to be bathed in a GOLDEN GLOW and we need more COLOR and there should be some ALMOST UNDERAGE POON washing the windows in a wet, clingy top!

I need a boner RIGHT NOW!!!

What's this "Harry Potter"?

Posted by: christian [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 12, 2009 12:27 PM

Poland says that there is no "magic" in the film, but then calls Helena Bonham Carter "magical."

Not trying to play gotcha...just a suggestion to write a script.

having realised i wrote my thoughts about the movie in the wrong 'boxofficey' HP thread, i copied it here where i should have posted it in the first place.

well, i enjoyed 'half blood prince' far more than yates' 'order of the phoenix', which fell quite flat for me, lacking in heart, menace, humour, charm and emotion. so a shout out for kloves as returning scribe, welcome back man, you were sorely missed.

kloves does an admirable job of simplifying and adapting what is a very long, very dense novel for the screen, capturing the flavour of 'HB prince' in a way that 'phoenix' COMPLETELY missed the mark imho. consequently, yates does a more assured job this time out bringing this better-constructed story to life, hitting some fine notes along the way with well-considered perfs and moments of humour, horror and pathos, anchored by: a subtle, mature turn by radcliff, now largely resigned to harry's fate; broadbent's pompous yet well-meaning and regretful slughorn; and most surprisingly, a tormented turn by felton as draco malfoy that succeeds in giving the film a deeper layer and some palpable conflict as harry shadows malfoy, trying to thwart his unknown mission, while malfory struggles with his destiny. this is the most effective element in the film as far as i'm concerned.

while the movie does lack a bit of punch and has a certain meandering quality to it - like crossing a long bridge knowing there are more, longer bridges ahead so you need to pace yourself - it's an enjoyable way to find out about the boy riddle leading up to his becoming the genocidal, fractured soul that is lord voldemort, revealed through the time travels of harry and the terribly groovy dumbledore (i particularly liked the visual manifestations of the wispy memories in the pensieve) and amidst the yearnings of horny teens and quiddich. not bad at all, looking forward the 'the hallows' (pity the conclusion of that two-parter is years away, it seems so long to wait)
