I saw the trailer for this and it actually looked kind of amusing. Is this coming out theatrically? Because recently on my cable system they were advertising it to watch it on-demand.

I saw this at CineVegas and it's an OUTSTANDING dark comedy. Easily in my top 5 at years end unless a miracle run of great movies comes up. Rent it now on demand, you won't be sorry.

Good interview. What I like about this film is that it doesn't seem to be self-consciously arty like a lot of the indie crap that comes out these days, it's just a dark demented looking comedy that happened to be made on an indie budget.

I bought it On Demand last week and really enjoyed it. Robin Williams was VERY good. Great, quirky soundtrack. Not one of the Top 5 films of the year, Don Lewis, but a pleasant surprise with more than enough laughs and real emotional weight. Lorraine Nicholson plays the goth and you'd never tell how gorgeous she is beneath all that makeup. The kid, Daryl Sabara, is a nice find, very funny. I dug it Bobcat!

Ah, is the reason it was kind of quietly showing at the Encino 5 last month before getting its full release this month because of the On Demand of it all? A friend of mine caught it there where it was said to be doing an "Academy Qualifying Run," but then - of course - it's coming out for real on August 21st.

I should clarify; PERSONAL top 5 of the year, not like, everyones critically and Oscar mandated top 5 of the year.

and that Daryl Sabata kid was the little boy in "Spy Kids." In "Worlds Greatest Dad" he's got to be one of the biggest a-holes committed to the silver screen in a while. I wanted to KILL that kid.

You got it, SJR. Need to be on screens first.
Encino and the Grande downtown are the city's primary sneak-to-qualify houses. And in NY, the issue is that the distributors feel that they can't get away with it... if it plays on a New York screen, someone will review then and everyone will follow. That is what the tie up is the NY Film Fest being too late for doc qualifying, but not allowing the 1 wk NY run.

The Encino 5 seems to have a typical median age of around 60. I went there to see "You Can Count On Me" once and the popcorn machine in the lobby caught fire. The fire alarm went off, smoke started billowing into the various theaters and - seriously - the entire oldster audience had no idea what to do.
I finally got up, started yelling "follow me!!" like goddamn Fred MacMurray and led the thirty or so folks out the fire exit down by the screen.
Seriously. Deer in headlights.

But that's the great thing about that theatre: nobody's texting!
