EXCLUSIVE: MGM Sold To Coca-Cola & Apple!!!

April 1, 2009
As evidenced by the new outdoor campaign for Fame, which uses Coca-Cola's dynamic ribbon lettering and Apple's famous iPod shadows, the company did not announce today that it is being bought by Coke and Apple. "Don't you have anything better to write about, you idiot?," said a insider source who asked not to be named because he's really shy and would stop buying me lunch if I named him.

The best they could do I suppose...what does MGM have in the vault aside from the much delayed and aweful "Poughkeepsie Tapes"
Scanners, The Topkapi Affair and Pinkville all in some sort of development.
Should I be shocked by the hilarious level of idiocy? no...

Death of a film studio? This week only reinforces 6 majors (tho Universal is in death throes), 3 major minors (Weinstein, Summit (they have thr Twilight franchise), and Lionsgate (they have Madea/Tyler Perry)

The truly awful POUGHKEEPSIE TAPES was a dog of a pick-up that has been on and off the re-sale block a number of times. It looks like NO ONE is interested in giving this thing a theatrical release.
I, for one, am very curious to see how the genre-bending CABIN IN THE WOODS does, especially since February 2010 now seems to be over-crowded. MGM even has a second release (HOT TUB TIME MACHINE) the same month. I am guessing a re-shuffling of the schedule will happen soon.

Ick. How is "I'm gonna make it to Heaven" supposed to attract anyone?

I don't actually think these ads are bad... just derivative.

Don, I'M GONNA LEARN HOW TO FLY! FAME! Seriously dude, that's one of the easiest callbacks on a poster ever.

Maybe it'll fool people into thinking it's a Tyler Perry movie.
Speaking of which, his latest movie is actually screening for press. What changed there?

How is everyone missing DP's humor here? You're all taking the FAME post at face-value and talking about MGM's viability and the campaign, when his post is actually one of his sharpest Nikki jabs ever.
"Don't you have anything better to write about, you idiot?," said a insider source who asked not to be named because he's really shy and would stop buying me lunch if I named him."
Priceless.

Dietcock - you are right, it was very funny. I am surprised he was able to restrain himself from replacing "Exclusive" with "TOLDJA!"

I'm hoping, LYT, that it means that I Can Do Bad All By Myself is closer to The Family That Preys (a flawed, but genuinely good movie) than Madea Goes to Jail (a checklist of everything that Perry does wrong turned up to 11).

Beg to differ on "Poughkeepsie," bmcintire. I'm a fan and I wish others would get a chance to judge for themselves, either in theaters or on DVD.
