Is Michael Jackson Still Dead?

I mean, as all the vultures have moved onto the new carrion that is Paula Abdul, how can we be sure?

I know others feel compelled to write hundreds of column inches on this SHOCKING news, but was there a single sentient being who thought that they really wanted four judges on American Idol? Do people not understand that in the second that Kara whatever-her-name-is stripped off her dress onstage that Paula Abdul was finished on Idol? Did anyone else notice that the show couldn't stay on schedule with four people offering their opinions and that of the four, Abdul was the one who couldn't shut herself up?

She's already had the reality show... and it failed.

No other established show has any reason to even consider her... unless So You Think You Can Dance is going to replace the already pretend-insane Mary Murphy with her... and do you really think 19 Productions wants to get back into the pool with L'il Nutty?

Sadly, the only triumph left for Abdul will be in death. And given her clear substance problems, that could come all too soon. But don't book the Staples Center. The Wiltern should do the job, thanks. That is, unless Dr. Drew's Celebrity Rehab is ready for a very special season.

Actually, I have enjoyed watching her be crazy on that show... but when they brought on a female replacement to create the only 4 judge panel anywhere and then couldn't keep the show on schedule... well... writing was on the wall. No?

Ouch, Poland. That's rough.

But true. Abdul has some deep problems, and all the whitewashing in the world won't cover up the fact that she's been on the outs for at least a year.

Kara whats-her-face is right. It didn't seem like she got the whole theatrical aspect of her job. Randy, dawg, was an expert voice of the people. Simon was Snidely Whiplash and Paula was the little engine that thought everyone could. It was like sticking an Bulgarian ice skating judge on the panel of the Gong Show. I'm not so sure that it was even her taking herself too seriously or not. It just seemed like she showed up to a WWE Event w/out a costume. Not that she was totally off base but I can't say I cared what she said any more than a former talent winner on the Miss Teen USA pageant.

Sorry I missed the striptease. She didn't realize that the audience booing neg critics by the judges was part of the spectacle and also a way to support the artist, not so much animosity towards the judges. (Sure, sometimes w/Simon). But the audience was getting on her and she flipped back "I'd like to see you try!" And then I thought, 'Yeah, let's!' Not so much a knock against her but why not have an audition process to be a judge? Not like that's Suzanne de Passe up there or Aretha that we gotta bow. I mean even Paula wasn't that but we kinda knew her and what she was about.

If they really wanted to save time they'd go w/two judges of Simon and Randy and then they could take turns reading a sheet of paper left in front of the vacant spot, "Oh and Paula says 'Yay, way to go. I'm so proud of you.' Next!"

I actually liked Paula and am sad to see her go. I'd only check in on the show for bits and pieces but her nuttiness was a nice contribution and balance.

Kara is interesting... sometimes she's cool, gives sound advice, has good vocal chops, goes toe to toe with Simon/Randy well and knows the biz.

But other times she's just SUPER toolish, even embarrassing, doing this vampy blues-woman cadence and dropping dated slang with ZERO irony. She ranges from sexy to kind of off-putting, but ultimately I think she's okay overall.

Mary Murphy, on the other hand, acts like a LOON, a thousand times more terrifying and nutty and irritating than Paula at her incoherent worst. Shrill, tacky, grating, over-emotional, shaky and just plain... weird. That Hot Tamale Train shit is the most embarrassing thing EVER; Mia Michaels is also a dippy, aging New Age hen.

(I usually watch it on and off in case there are any hot chicks, but this year's crop is pretty underwhelming, though Kayla is by far my favorite. YEP YEP.)

Australia had a four judge panel, actually. One of the original three left after a couple of seasons and was replaced and then a couple of seasons later he wanted to come back but they also wanted to keep the three they had so they had a panel of four.

Then a year later they ditched one of the original two to take it back to three judges and now they've had to fire the judge that came in late because he was involved in a radio scandal and so they're stuck with two judges instead of three.

It's very bizarre.

Kami: So there's an opening for Paula in Australia?

New Fox sitcom: two crazy-ass, newly-unemployed women in their 40s, Sarah and Paula, live together a la THE ODD COUPLE. Each week, Paula brings a hot young hunk home and sleeps with him. In the morning, he's given a 5-minute head start and then Sarah hunts him down in a chopper a la THE MOST DANGEROUS GAME. Sex, violence and laughs galore.

Ben Silverman--get to work on it stat!
