Press Release - Kevin Smith's 24 Hour Tweet
KEVIN SMITH INSTIGATES 24-HOUR LABOR DAY TWITTER MARATHON
Smith’s ‘Tweet-A-Thon’ First Ever Day-Long Fan Outreach
LOS ANGELES, CA. SEPTEMBER 3, 2009—Filmmaker Kevin Smith will conduct a 24 hour online Q&A at Twitter for an uninterrupted 24 hours when he begins communicating with some of his 1.25 million Twitter followers on the morning of Labor Day, Monday, September 7.
Promoting his latest book, “Shootin’ the Sh*t With Kevin Smith”, as well as a 15 city international speaking tour that starts this month, Smith will answer as many questions as he can over the course of the day. The 24 hours will start from the posting of that morning’s first Tweet.
“This is not news at all. In fact, it’s kinda stupid. But I wanna see if I can do it. I’ve been training for this my whole life, simply by being a lazy fat-ass who’d rather stare at a screen than better himself with a brisk constitutional. Someone asked what my training regiment is gonna be, and I told them I’ve already stockpiled lots of Count Chocula.”

“Shootin’ the Sh*t With Kevin Smith,” from Titan Books, will arrive in book stores September 22. This volume of essays collects the best moments of Smith’s freewheeling conversations with his friend and producer Scott Mosier, as heard on their top-rated podcast, known as the “SModcast”, which attracts up to a hundred thousand downloads every week. Lewd, and hilariously crude, “Shootin’ The Sh*t” topics range from the genesis of Stalin’s Monkey Soldier army, to the horrifying tale of Kevin vs. Steak Tartare, and how Kevin was once willing to let Alanis Morissette get mugged…
Titan previously published Smith’s comics work in the UK, and has since struck success collaborating on collections of his writings. Titan’s paperback volumes Silent Bob Speaks and My Boring-Ass Life have sold over 100,000 copies, with the latter making the New York Times bestseller list on its release in 2007.
Smith’s Fall speaking tour starts in Minneapolis on Sept. 17th and takes him to Chicago, Ann Arbor, Philadelphia, Dallas, Miami, London (where a second show was added after the venue quickly sold out), Glasgow, Dublin, Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Denver and Edmonton. Smith’s “show” is in question and answer format, with a brief question turning into an hour-long response in some cases. Smith’s been featured in three successful DVD’s featuring his live shows, “An Evening with Kevin Smith”, “An Evening with Kevin Smith 2: Evening Harder”, and last year’s “A Threevening with Kevin Smith.”

Ack. I've been on the verge of "un-friending" Smith for a while and this might be the final straw. While it's awesome he's reaching out to fans this way (and lets face it, he's one of the BEST self promoters ever) his twitter account is usually a detail of him jerking it, smoking weed or banging his wife. Or, all 3. Now my twitter feed will be inundated with faboi Q&A for 24 hours!?! Now how will I see Lex's empty suicide promises??

What do you mean "what happened?" This twitter thing will make him a trending topic and he already has over 1 million twitter followers. Plus he just wrapped a cop flick with Tracey Morgan and Bruce Willis.
Like I said, the dude has his niche and army of followers and they make him phat cash. I just wish he wasn't always playing the lowly fat guy card where he prefaces EVERYTHING he does by saying how fat and stupid and lame he is.

Spending the entire 24 hour Labor Day period tweeting...when did life stop being too short for this?

Hallick, you're acting like he's doing this for fun. He's spending 24 hours in hell for a mountain of PR that will translate to book sales that translate to money. In other words, he's doing his job.

I've been a bit down on Kevin Smith ever since his behaviour towards the ailing Joel Siegel - that was totally out of order on his part. Nevertheless, i have to say that Clerks 2 is one of the funniest films this decade, and his cameo in Live Free or Die Hard was surprisingly effective - "Are you a big fan of Boba Fett?" "Nah - i was always more of a Star Wars guy...".

"He's spending 24 hours in hell for a mountain of PR that will translate to book sales that translate to money."
A molehill of PR. Twitter stunts are overrated flash; and Ashton Kutcher's ubiquity didn't seem to translate to money for his last movie anyway.

i like kevin smith. i think he's entertaining. like his books. entertaining podcast to boot. i just stopped liking his movies years ago. not my particular brand of whimsy.
but i have this weird feeling A Couple of Dicks ends up next to Edison Force on the direct to dvd shelf.
