Toronto... Still Quiet...
There is always something wonderful about landing in a city that is about to have a major festival a day or two before the festival. Park City, Toronto, Telluride, and God knows, Cannes are lovely places to go and simply enjoy.
You can imagine my shock when we landed at Pearson International and found The Carpetbagger himself welcoming people to The Clean, Polite New York... and on his birthday nonetheless!!!

Kidding... but this guy really resembled Mr. Carr... in spite of a still heavy Eastern European accent. And a very happy Bagger birthday to the real thing.
On the Tuesday before TIFF, Sassafras is just another late night place. The manager has enough time to print out a map of all the FedEx's in town for my wife... and the food was letter perfect.
I am looking forward to TIFF this year. Somehow, it feels busy, but not as insane as in year's past. Perhaps it is that some of the heat, represented by the big studios and the Oscar pushes of year's past, is gone. But for me, it's about the movies and the amazing amount of talent here this year. It feels more like we are heading into a "pure" festival than it has in years.
(That said, the amount of "talent" that is doing just a couple of hours of press is spectacular. I completely get the frenzy that can happen here and the need for publicists to take as much advantage of the opportunity of having us all here as they can. I respect this, even when it means the answer to something is, "no." But really... I have heard "we are only getting 2 hours with Person X" at least 15 times in the last week. Fascinating. All that aside, I expect that our coverage will be very special this year.)
We'll be doing our first shoot here tomorrow night... Super Movie Friends: TIFF Edition - Episode One. And then, Thursday, 4 screenings to kick off the fest...
I have an odd idea of fun.
