Anvil was my favorite doc that I've seen this year so far, and it bugs me to see it only on the 'Audience Choice' list.

Weird list for sure. No Michael Moore (likely earned as that film has landed like a turd in a punchbowl) and no "Collapse" which is the only doc I really wanna see still.

RJ Cutler for Direction? If they'd gotten someone better equipped then the movie would have been far better.

Anvil was eligible in other categories last year and Sacha Gervasi was nominated for Outstanding Debut. Collapse will likely be eligible next year.

Hmm, why spread a movie's possible nominations over more than one year? I was thinking 'maybe Anvil was nominated last year' until I saw they had that lone nom in there, which doesn't make sense to me .

The Audience Choice Prize is treated differently from the other categories because it considers theatrical box office as one factor in determining the nominees. Since films need not have a theatrical release to be eligible in the other categories, Anvil was eligible (and nominated) last year by virtue of playing and winning awards at a number of qualifying film festivals. But since Anvil had its very successful theatrical run this year, it's eligible for Audience Choice this year.
