FABULOUS!
Keenan Thompson needs to play this guy on SNL.
Watched about two minutes of it... Why's this dude so bitchy to genial Poland? Kind of eases up from there, but not since Jason Reitman has a subject seemed so testy w/the P-MAN.

Haven't watched this video yet, but saw him at the Vancouver Film Fest last month. During the QnA after the film, someone asked him about the significance of the scarf in the opening shot. He just shook his head and said, "You must be a film student!" He then went on to try and explain it, but it was pretty obvious he didn't want to.
My friends and I sat there laughing at the question itself, and were surprised he even decided to play ball on that one. If it were me, I would have left it with the cutting comment and said, "Next!"
Anyhow, he seemed like a pretty cool and genuine guy.

Yeah that's pretty rad;
One of those cases where the audio-only MP3 doesn't do the interview justice; Sounds like he's being kinda dismissive/difficult, but checking more of this out on video, he's pretty game and funny. I was also going by the Shadowboxer commentary --
and how lame is my life that I LISTENED TO THE SHADOWBOXER DVD COMMENTARY??????????

He's probably bitchy to DP because SHADOWBOXER sucked and David and everyone else knows it.

My worry on "Precious," is that it will have a visceral "Crash-" like reaction in cases...and it has, based on Slant's reaction and certain NY critics as well (its Metacritic score fell to 61 based on NYC-first prefs. It's since risen to 71). I've had the chance to see "Precious" and I think it's the clear early best-pic frontrunner. Voters will respond to this far better than "Up in the Air" or anything else out there.
Personally, I can't imagine how people would take a "Crash-esque" approach to this picture. It connects the viewer to a life you could never imagine a connection to. "Crash" crystalized a fantastic, extreme-liberal view of racial stereotypes that never existed, but nonetheless captured the imagination of the Academy-voter and was preferable to "Brokeback Mountain" because it was a socially-relevant alternative! This movie capsilizes the poverty of many African-Americans- It legitimizes Mo'Nique and Mariah Carey; in fact they burn through the screen. Slant and NY's complaints that the film is self-serving are completely disingenuos. The negativity comes from all over the map.
Oh yeah, Mo'Nique and Daniels aren't bowing and slavering to the Academy. This cost Ryan Gosling an Oscar in 2006 when he clearly obliterated the competition, and it very well might here.

Dave, this is the only DP 30 I have watched all the way through! What an utterly charming, disarming, and amazing man!
What I love is that he doesn't just keep repeating his "talking points" that so-and-so was "a dream" to work with, blah blah blah.
GO Precious! Will definitely see it when it's released up here...
