So does Disney push UP for Best Picture, while going for Best Animated Film when it comes to The Princess and the Frog?

So now, can someone explain to me why make-up gets only 3 nomination slots each year? If almost every movie involves make-up, why has it always been limited to just 3 nominees?

Because if they had five make-up nominees it'd be four bouts of old age makeup and a fantasy nominee. Just like if there were five visual effects nominees it'd be all big explosions and still no room for little more inventive uses of effects like Eternal Sunshine. Just like the animation field is usually three wide since there's never a good enough field for five (this year will be the first in which, hopefully, there are five good nominees - 2003 had a silly line up of five).
