Cop Out - Red Band
You know, watching this, I am actually interested in seeing this film... more so than any Kevin Smith movie in a long while, I must say. And what WB is out selling wide... I just can't tell what movie they are trying to tell me it's going to be... a Wayans Bros mock of cop movies or God knows what.
But this red band trailer - not safe for work or people who get upset by dick jokes - much, much clearer vision.

Smith has said it's basically a loving ode to '80s cop movies. He even had Harold Faltermeyer do the score.

"He even had Harold Faltermeyer do the score."
NOW, I want to see this, that's awesome!
Actually, this is a pretty funny trailer. The regular trailer that's everywhere is god-awful.

This is what Kevin Smith sold out for?
Oh my God, this looks like absolute dog crap.
How many damn comic books does one guy need?

much better trailer. i for one would love to see an ode to 80's cop films.
the green band trailer made it look like Showtime.

This is encouraging. I'm a pretty big Smith fan, and thought the first trailer looked like total crap. This one has me actually curious to watch, now. I still don't know if I can handle 90 minutes of Tracy Morgan mugging, but maybe....

I'm not sure I can handle 90 SECONDS of Tracy Morgan mugging. Not to mention Seann William Scott...

I think the pleasures of the movie are going to be watching Bruce Willis laugh at Tracy Morgan, a la the last shot in the trailer. That's a star power thing, very powerful.

What you describe Sean is a "watch this on Showtime or HBO in eight months" pleasure, not a "I am going to pay $11 to see this in a theater" pleasure. Big difference.

You know, Stella's Boy, that's not such a bad thing. Buddy Cop comedies were some of the first movies that people enjoyed on VHS, they were tailor made for home viewing. I know that's how I remember most of my buddy cop movies, although I wasn't alive during most of the 80's.
Granted, that sort of mindset doesn't bode well for it's box office.

In a world where people think Tracy Morgan is funny...

Yeah I didn't mean that as pure criticism. There's a place for all kinds of movies. This one looks like it's good for home viewing on a rainy Saturday night. It does not look like the kind you rush out to see in theaters, unless you're a huge Smith or Willis fan (I am not).

Also, I can't believe how quickly movies make it to HBO, Cinemax and Starz now. Friday the 13th was on Cinemax 10 months after its theatrical release date. The Taking of Pelham 123 will be on Starz 8 months after its theatrical release. Same for Year One.

christian, if you watched 30 ROCK, you'd know why people think that. His film choices have remained terrible, but when he has strong writing that knows how to use his comic voice, he is very very funny.

I don't find 30 ROCK all that funny so I'm clearly out of the loop here.

This looks absolutely wretched...christ this has been a brutal couple months.

Ah well, to each his own. It's on its way down anyway.

"Buddy Cop comedies were some of the first movies that people enjoyed on VHS, they were tailor made for home viewing."
On which planet? In ours, it was porn that was tailor made for VHS.
